Giants Win Baseball Opener for First Time in 6 Seasons 原文網址 http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/sports/200604/kt2006040916325511640.htm By Kim Hyun-cheol Staff Reporter Showing a spark of hope, the Lotte Giants began the Korean Baseball Organization League season Saturday in Taegu by overcoming their long-time nemisis the Samsung Lions. With catcher Kang Min-ho earning three RBIs, the Giants beat the defending champions 4-2 for their first win in a season opener in six years. The Giants struggled against the Lions last season, going 4-14 against the Taegu-based team, including a five-game skid. Giants' hurler Lee Sang-mok allowed one run on three hits over six innings in recording the victory. Lee took the season-opening starter's duty in place of Son Min-han, who underwent an appendectomy recently. Lions starter Bae Young-soo had his winning record over the Giants snapped at 14 games. The visitors got on the scoreboard in the second inning, when Lee Dae-ho doubled after one out. Then, Park Ki-hyuk walked before Kang drove both in with another double. Yang Joon-hyuk of the Lions cut the margin in the fourth with a solo home run but the Giants added two more runs in the sixth frame. With the bases from two walks and one hit, Kang was hit by a pitch from reliever Ahn Ki- man and Lee Won-suk hit a sacrifice fly. The Lions responded with another run in the same frame from a Kim Han-soo sacrifice fly but it was not enough to turn the tide. In a Seoul derby, Ahn Kyung-hyun of the Doosan Bears hit the season's first home run as the Bears came away with a 3-1 win against the LG Twins. The 36-year-old infielder hit a fastball off Twins starter Choi Sang-deok in the opening inning for a two-runs. The Twins closed within 2-1 with Cho In-sung' s RBI single in the seventh inning but Jang Won-jin hit a sacrifice fly in the same frame for an insurance run. Bears starter Daniel Rios worked well, giving up one run on four hits over seven innings Jay Davis, the league's longest-playing import at the moment, hit a three-run home run to lead the Hanwha Eagles over the Kia Tigers 3-1 in Taejon. Davis, playing his seventh season in Korea, connected off a pitch from Tigers reliever Jeon Byung-doo in the seventh to lift the Eagles over a 1-0 deficit. Former Major Leaguer Koo Dae-sung shut out the last 1 1/3 innings to post his first save. In Inchon, Kazuhiko Shiotani, the first Japanese import infielder, produced all the runs of the game, including a two-run home run in the fourth, as the SK Wyverns shut out the Hyundai Unicorns 3-0.
