Reeling from a terrible season for the Kings, the Maloof organization
announced its first-ever layoffs Tuesday.
國王剛經歷很糟糕的一季，馬魯夫宣佈第一次裁員。


Maloof Sports & Entertainment said it has eliminated about 1 percent of its
1,200 jobs. That translates to about a dozen jobs, though the organization
wouldn't say if they were full-time workers, part-timers or both.
馬魯夫運動娛樂公司說要減少大約1200個工作機會的1%。也就是差不多一打(這是在賺
字數嗎...)，雖然沒有說是全職還是兼差還是兩者都有。

The owner of the Kings, Monarchs and Arco Arena was reacting to the weak
economy and a dismal Kings season that produced waves of unsold tickets at
Arco.
因為經濟還有戰績導致票房不佳。

"Like all companies today – including sports teams and leagues – we are
making changes in every area of our business," the organization said in a
press release.
「我們正在改變我們事務裡的每一個領域」

The Kings have scrambled in recent months to respond to declining revenue.
The team in February was among a dozen teams borrowing money under a line of
credit arranged by the National Basketball Association. The Kings wouldn't
say how much they borrowed, but each team was allowed $13 million to $20
million.
國王這幾個月來一直在應付下滑的收入。在二月時就向nba借了一筆錢。國王不會透露數
目，不過每隻球隊可以借13m到20m

Team executives also acknowledged the Kings were on track to lose $25 million
to $28 million this year, although that was before trading several
high-salaried players in February.
球隊執行也承認今年損失了25m到28m，雖然這是在交易掉幾個高薪球員之前的數字。

The team ranked last in the league in attendance, averaging 12,571, according
to ESPN.com. In an effort to revive attendance, the Kings have announced
they're dropping season ticket prices for next year.
觀眾人數也是排名倒數第一，平均12571。為了喚回觀眾，已經宣佈明年季票降價。

The recession has produced a cash crunch for several sports organizations.
The NBA league office laid off 9 percent of its employees last fall. The
National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes filed for bankruptcy protection this
month.
經濟衰退已經造成許多運動組織現金危機。nba官方在去年秋天已經裁掉9%員工。職業冰球
的Phoenix Coyotes這個月已經申請破產保護。

The layoffs are the first since the Maloof family bought the organization 11
years ago, said Mitch Germann, a vice president with Maloof Sports.
這次裁員是自從馬魯夫11年前接手以來第一次。
