Kings: Westphal encourages Hawes to shoot

Westphal：好好射啊

No one can say Spencer Hawes looks at his performance through rose-colored
lenses.

    小屁孩並沒有樂觀地來看他的表現。

When asked to assess his progress nine games into his third season, the Kings
center was blunt.

    問到他覺得自已表現如何時，小屁孩直說了。

"Not terribly excited," Hawes said. "But I think that has mostly to do with
offensive stuff, shooting the ball. But the other things I'm feeling pretty
good about."

    「不怎樣，但我想我很多的問題來自於進攻、投籃。其他的部份應該還OK。」

While the other things – rebounding, defense and setting screens – have
drawn praise from the coaching staff, Hawes has been inconsistent on offense.

    其他的部份，不管是籃板、防守還是單擋，他都得到過教練團的稱讚，只有他的進攻
起伏不定。

Hawes has made just 41.8 percent of his field-goal attempts. One of Hawes'
strengths is his outside shooting, but the 7-foot-1 center is 0 for 12 on
three-point shots. Hawes, however, is second on the Kings with 7.2 rebounds
per game and tied with Jason Thompson for the team lead in blocked shots,
averaging 1.3.

    四成一八命中率，其實他有外線能力，可他在外面投了十二顆都沒進。但他的7.2 籃
板排在隊上列第二，阻攻也以1.3 次和JT共享第一。

That's why Hawes concedes all is not bad on the court.

    所以他也承認事情還沒那麼糟。

"I'm just struggling shooting the ball, trying to figure out where to be
within the system and getting comfortable there, but it'll come," Hawes said
after practice Sunday. "A lot of my offense is being in that flow, being in
that rhythm, passing the ball and scoring it, so it's kind of a work in
progress."

    「我的投籃現在就是不會進，我還在試著想出原因並融入場中，我想手感會回來的。
我的進攻就是要跟著節奏走，傳球或是得分。」在星期天的訓練後小屁孩說。

Hawes came off the bench in the first four games because the coaching staff
wanted him to progress in the areas they are pleased with now, such as
setting screens to free teammates.

    前四場他由板凳中出發，因為教練團希望他能有所進步，而後來他也因為這些進步而
打到先發。

"Being more active, using my length," Hawes said. "Defensive rebounding,
you've just got to make a concerted effort."

    「積極主動，利用我的長處。捉下防守籃板，你得為場上做出貢獻。」小屁孩說。

The next step for Hawes is to find his offensive flow. Hawes has made at
least half of his shots four times this season.

    接下來就是要找回他的進攻了。本季他平均每場出手10次。

"I don't know if his confidence is real high right now," coach Paul Westphal
said. " … We know he's a good shooter and his shots will fall. I think he
probably needs a little more confidence in that area."

    「我不知道他的自信是否仍然高漲。他是個好射手，而且他有能力投籃得分。我想他
只是要找回自信。」教頭說。

When asked if confidence was a hurdle, Hawes didn't sound like a player with
a fragile state of mind.

    被問到是不是信心的問題時，還好Hawes 回答時並沒有崩潰的表現。

"It's just putting the ball in the hole," Hawes said.

    「只是把球放進去而已。」Hawes說。

Teammates say Hawes playing well on defense and doing the "other things" is a
big reason the Kings have won four in a row.

    隊友說Hawes 在防守時表現良好且做到了「其他事情」，這些都是幫助國王四連勝的
主因。

Rookie forward Jon Brockman, Hawes' friend since childhood, said every player
goes through slumps. Brockman said that's one reason not to panic.

    Brockman是Hawes 童年時期起的朋友，他說每個球員都有低潮，這是為什麼大家不要
慌張。

There's also how Hawes has handled the shooting slump to start the season.

    冷處理也是Hawes對這個問題的主要方法。

"The good thing for him is he's not letting it affect anything else,"
Brockman said. "A lot of times that will happen and a person will just be
useless. But he's been rebounding well, defending well. He's been able to
concentrate on his other stuff. His shot's not going well, but he's playing
well."

    「往好處想，他沒有讓這一點影響他其他的表現。有時人會因投籃不進就整個人虛掉
。但他還是有捉板、有防守。他能夠專心在其他事務上。投籃不好，可是他打得很好。」

One beneficiary of Hawes' efforts has been Thompson, who has recorded a
double double in points and rebounds in five consecutive games, coinciding
with Hawes' insertion back into the starting lineup.

    Hawes 也是JT這幾場打得好的原因，當Hawes 開始和他一同先發後，他連拿了四場的
兩雙。（Hawes ：我練的捨已為人功法，就是成就他人的績效。）

"When you do stuff like (set screens and rebound), it just doesn't get the
guards open. It gets (post players) open as well," Thompson said.

    「當你在幫後衛作檔切時或籃板卡位時，不只是後衛球員會有空檔，連除了你之外的
另外那個大個子也會有空檔」JT說。（感謝RonArtest93仗義援手！）

Hawes said he needs to concentrate on improving his offensive game near the
rim to get himself going. He'll need to be more assertive in letting guards
know when he wants the ball and continue to develop a rapport with the
ballhandlers.

    Hawes 說他會努力在籃框附近進攻來讓自已回到從前。他會更積極向後衛要球來和他
們做些配合。

Westphal continues to express confidence in Hawes. During games when Hawes
misses an open jumper, Westphal can be heard encouraging Hawes to continue
shooting when he has the opportunity.

    教頭對他投下信任票。當Hawes 空檔軟手時，教頭總會鼓勵他有機會還是要投。

And Westphal certainly isn't endorsing the volume-shooting method for Hawes
to find his stroke.

    而教頭也不認為大量的投射練習有助Hawes 重回崗位。

"He doesn't have to shoot it more," Westphal said. "He just has to shoot it
with conviction. He's a good shooter, and he knows he's a good shooter."

    「他不用射太多，只要相信自已就好了。他是個好射手，而他自已也知道。」教頭說
。

不過也有一篇文章說：「其實我們的勝利跟Westphal的關連，大概就那麼一丁點....」
