How to stop Mavs still stumps Westphal
被爆就是命，爆了找人定
Kings coach Paul Westphal spent the past two seasons working for the Dallas
Mavericks as an assistant coach and in the front office.
過去兩季，教頭都在達拉斯做（臥底？）。
So it makes sense that Westphal would have insight on how to slow former NBA
MVP Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the Mavs.

If Westphal knows something, he's not letting on.

"I know enough to know you don't want to let Dirk and Jason Terry shoot very
much," Westphal said. "I also know enough to know that Jason Kidd knows how
to get them the ball. It's tough for anybody to go in there and knock them
off."

The Kings begin a three-game trip today in Dallas, followed by stops in
Houston and Memphis.

The first stop is a familiar one for Westphal, who was vice president of
basketball operations for the Mavs last season. He spent the 2007-08 season
as an assistant coach on Avery Johnson's staff.

"I enjoyed my time in Dallas and know many of those people real well,"
Westphal said. "It's nice to be taking a team in there and try to knock them

players still learning the NBA game. The team also is looking to overcome a
poor offensive performance in Tuesday's loss to Chicago, which ended

The team Westphal left in Dallas has a veteran lineup that still has its eyes
on an NBA championship.

a lot of veterans and has been together for a long time, their execution is
usually smoother. That's because basketball's a game of habits and getting to
know each other."

Led by Nowitzki's solid play, the Mavs are 9-3. He's averaging 27.5 points
and 9.3 rebounds. Coaching Nowitzki apparently didn't give Westphal any
ideas on how to stop the 7-foot forward.

"I've never really ever seen anybody defend Dirk," Westphal said. "He'll miss
some shots sometimes, but he is a consummate professional, and he's a walking
mismatch. Whoever you put on him, he's got an answer."

The Mavs create mismatches in the backcourt with Kidd and Terry.

"I don't know how we're going to guard them yet or who's going to guard who,
but we'll see," Kings guard Beno Udrih said. "It's a tough matchup."

Westphal, of course, knows a little bit about Kidd and Terry, but the system
run by coach Rick Carlisle isn't the same one the Mavs ran under Johnson.

"They complement each other so well," Westphal said. "Jason Terry is really
an off guard style-wise but a point guard size-wise. Jason Kidd is big enough
to defend the off guard. So they can play together very well. Jason Kidd
likes to pass, and Jason Terry likes to shoot, and they're both great at it."

Terry, the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year, is averaging 17.0 points this
season. Kidd is averaging 8.9 assists.

"Jason Kidd is a great player," Udrih said. "He finds his teammates basically
every time he passes. He finds guys, and he's been doing that for years."
