It wasn't the first time Tyreke Evans has felt appreciated in his new
workplace, but the praise wasn't always this obvious.

When the Kings rookie guard arrived at the team's practice facilityTuesday
morning, he heard applause from his teammates and surrounding staff. He was
named the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month, and the individual
accolade was more than enough reason for the Kings to celebrate collectively.

這個獎項意義重大 國王好久沒人得獎了 真該慶祝一下!
The organization, which has experienced its darkest stretch in recent
seasons, hadn't had one of its rookies win the award since Brian Grant in
1995. For the team's owners to the media relations employees (who routinely
petition for such honors), the rejection was a byproduct of the losing that
became the norm.

It isn't just the Kings' rookies who have been ignored. The last monthly
award given to a Kings player was in January 2005, when Chris Webber was
named Player of the Month. A Kings coach hasn't been deemed Coach of the
Month since January 2004. Even the weekly honors largely eluded them, as Brad
Miller's Player-of-the-Week award was the last of its kind on Feb. 4, 2008.

The hope when the Kings drafted Evans out of Memphis fourth overall last
June, of course, was that he could help change that. So far, so good. "(The
award is) a good thing for me to have and for the Kings organization to have
just to let people know that we're an up-and-coming team," Evans said. "Teams
have been doubting us, and we've been showing teams that we're pretty good.
It shows we've got a lot of potential on this team and upcoming guys who are
going to be good in this league. If we keep working hard, keep playing
together, we'll be a pretty good team."

Evans has averaged 18.8 points (44.6 field-goal percentage, 32.3 three-point
percentage, 79 percent from the free throw line), five rebounds, 4.7 assists,
1.33 steals and 36.1 minutes per game. He has started all 15 games in which
he has played this season.

The difference between the past and present, though, is that the Kings aren't
the only ones sharing that sentiment. While the 2008-09 Kings were en route
to posting the franchise's worst record,manyplayers continued to express
confidence in the collective abilities. But with these Kings boasting a
record of 8-8 - despite the losses of Kevin Martin and Francisco García -
opponents and national media have deemed them the early surprise story this
season. And the accolades always come more frequently when the team is
winning.

Kings coach Paul Westphal has been as pleased as anyone.
"I didn't know what to expect (going into the season), and so I didn't
project any records at any particular time of the year," said Westphal, whose
team hosts Indiana tonight. "All I wanted is for us to continue getting
better, and I think the record will take care of itself, whatever it is. I do
think we're getting better. We're showing good progress. I'm real pleased
about that."

Evans has hardly done it alone. With the Kings taking advantage of a
favorable early schedule, they've had contributions almost across the board.
The improved play of Jason Thompson has been as pivotal as any, and no one
knows better than the second-year forward that success is the quickest way to
recognition.

"It's good to be successful and get some wins," said Thompson, who is
averaging 14.1 points and 9.6 rebounds. "And I think when you get wins and
play well, then you get acknowledged for a lot of stuff.

"(Rookie of the Month is) an accomplishment I wanted to dolast year,
butweweren't winning so it's tough to do that. Hopefully, as we keep winning,
we get more accomplishments."

能有更多的獎項給我們"
Evans' strong start to his career has coincided with the delayed beginning to
Donté Greene's on-court career. The second-year small forward is averaging
nine points and shooting 54.3 percent after struggling in his rookie season.
EVANS的成長 在 GREENE破繭而出後反而有點停滯了下來

Greene said Evans deserves the credit he has been bestowed.

"He's had an injury-filled month, between his hand and his ankle and his
thigh and his knee, but he's out here working hard and he comes to play every
night," Greene said. "He's coming in with a lot of hype, but he's living up
to it and staying humble at the same time."
