Calipari thinks Wall-Evans backcourt would be good for Kings

John Calipari knows a little about college point guards. He coached the past
two NBA Rookies of the Year, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls and Tyreke
Evans of the Kings.

John Calipari略懂大學控衛這門學問，過去兩年NBA新人王都曾
被他帶過，芝加哥公牛的Rose和我們的reke。

Calipari, who coached both at the University of Memphis, has another prodigal
point guard entering this year's NBA draft, John Wall of Kentucky.
Wall is the consensus top prospect in a draft that lacks an interior player
expected to make an immediate impact.

曾執教於曼菲斯大學的Calipari，今年手下將有另一位才華洋溢的
控衛進入NBA，肯塔基大學的John Wall，他是目前公認的狀元人選，
缺乏核心球員的球隊可以期待他提供立即的戰力。

The Kings have a chance – slim as it is – to land the No. 1 pick at the NBA
draft lottery May 18 because they had the third-worst record this season.
Yet, after taking Evans fourth overall last year, selecting another guard
with similar skills might seem redundant.

今年戰績第三糟的國王有些微希望在五月十八抽到狀元籤，然而自
去年於第四順位選入reke後，再選入一位球風相似的後衛似乎很多
餘。

Calipari, however, has some advice for the Kings should they find themselves
with the first pick: Don't pass on Wall.

然而Calipari有一些建議給一旦抽中狀元籤的國王：
千萬別略過John Wall。

The Kings, coming off a 25-win season and missing the playoffs for the fourth
consecutive season, know drafting the best player available – regardless of
where they select – will make them better.

今年只有二十五勝的國王已經連續第四年錯過季後賽，他們知道選

But could Wall and Evans coexist on the floor? Calipari says yes.

"They're not the prototypical point guards, but they're both point guards
with their ability to make plays," Calipari said. "Defensively, (the Kings
are) much better; offensively, (they're) much better. You can get easy goals."

防守上，國王會變的更好；進攻上，他們也非常棒，能讓你更容易

Much like Evans and Rose, Wall had a stellar freshman season playing for
Calipari. Wall (6-foot-4, 195 pounds) is smaller than Evans (6-6, 220) and
would add a dimension of speed and quickness that would cause matchup
problems for opposing teams.

和reke與Rose一樣，Wall的大一球季在Calipari的教導下也有出色
的表現，Wall的體型﹝6-4，195﹞比起reke﹝6-6，220﹞稍嫌小了

Though the Kings need more size up front, they also need another guard who
can handle the ball.

Kings coach Paul Westphal ended the season starting both of his point guards,
Evans and Beno Udrih, with no backup ballhandler.

When Evans missed five games because of a concussion late in the season,
Udrih had to carry the load and received little rest.

Westphal declined to discuss any specific prospect in this year's draft but
has spent the weeks since the end of the regular season becoming familiar
with the top prospects.

"We're going to do all our homework from every angle," Westphal said. "We've
done our homework, and it continues."

followed Kentucky's season.

"(Wall is) a good player who can get out in the open court, and he's a good
point guard."

Evans said he hadn't given much thought to the possibility of playing with
Wall. But should the Kings end up with the No. 1 pick, Evans will be pleased.

"I'm looking forward to it," Evans said of attending the lottery. "I'll be
there on the 18th. I'm not really worried about who we get."

Calipari said he tried to convince the Memphis Grizzlies to select Evans with
the No. 2 pick last year. The Grizzlies, however, had already invested a lot
of money in guards O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley, both former high draft picks.

Memphis passed on Evans and selected Connecticut center Hasheem Thabeet, who
became the highest-selected player to be sent down to the NBA Development
League.

And rather than draft Evans, the Grizzlies signed Allen Iverson. That
experiment failed.

之後灰熊還簽了Allen Iverson，但這項實驗以失敗收場。

Calipari said Wall and Evans would give the Kings an extremely fast backcourt
that could push the tempo and set up other players.

Calipari說Wall-Evans配將會讓國王後場速度大躍進，他們能加快
比賽節奏並為其他球員仍找到機會。

He added Evans and Wall are different players who would complement each other.

他補充說Evans和Wall是不同型的球員，他們能夠互補。

"It'll be interesting where that ball drops for them," Calipari said of the
Kings.
