Penny Hardaway ran full speed without complications yesterday and said his
return is imminent. He could be in uniform as soon as Saturday, when the
Knicks play the Nets, and no later than the middle of next week.
That's a drastic turnaround from where Hardaway was a few days ago.
He was forced to cut short a workout Saturday when pain in his right
hamstring resurfaced. "It was a mental and physical setback," he said.
"I couldn't even run. But I did some things yesterday and today that made
me feel really good." ... With Jamal Crawford out with an injured toe,
the Knicks need an experienced shooting guard behind Allan Houston.
Coach Lenny Wilkens has been forced to use the rookie Trevor Ariza,
whose ideal position is small forward.
