All the St. John's point guard nicknamed "Showtime" wants is a chance to
shine amidst the neon lights of Las Vegas.

Daryll Hill, whose senior year at St. John's was wrecked by left-knee
surgery, limiting him to just 16 games, worked out for the Knicks yesterday.
Isiah Thomas is considering the Cardozo High grad for the Knicks'
summer-league team that will compete next month in Vegas.

The 6-foot Hill, who got his flashy moniker in junior high school because of
his explosiveness off the dribble, knows he won't be drafted but still thinks
he can make an NBA roster. The Nets were not looking at Hill during
yesterday's final joint workout with the Knicks in Westchester, in which 6-8
Georgia Tech forward Thaddeus Young also worked out. Nets spokesman Gary
Sussman went as far as to say that Nets GM Ed Stefanski would take questions
regarding only Young, who is projected as a late lottery pick. The Nets
select 17th.

"I most likely won't get drafted," Hill said. "I'll still work my way up and
try to get on somebody's roster. I'd love to play [summer league for the

Hill, capable of beating anyone off the dribble, had a terrific season two
years ago. But he's got an ugly outside shot and the fear is his
explosiveness will be gone after major surgery eight months ago.

"I feel young again," Hill said. "I can dunk again and get over the rim. I
want to show them I'm back and ready for anything. Anything's possible."

The Knicks' rookies from last season - Mardy Collins, Renaldo Balkman and
Randolph Morris, signed in March - will be on the summer-league team, along
with the player they pick at 23.

Mayor Bloomberg's office responded to Stephon Marbury's announcement Saturday
in which he pledged $4 million - $1 million each to the NYPD, FDNY, EMT and
New York City Teachers Fund - based on profits from his Starbury
sneaker/apparel line. Bloomberg said through a City Hall spokesman, "The City
welcomes support from civic-minded New Yorkers who want to pitch in and help
the Big Apple through donations. We look forward to working with Mr. Marbury
in supporting vital programs and services."

Channing Frye hit a $100,000, halfcourt shot at the Garden Monday in the
iStar Charity Shootout, which supports charities such as the Robin Hood
Foundation. Before the event, Frye showed his sense of humor regarding his
name surfacing in various trade offers. "As long as my name's being written.
I guess I still need to work hard," quipped Frye, whose heave made the Top 10
plays of the day on ESPN's "SportsCenter."
