Allan Houston's version of a comeback ended Thursday when the Knicks waived
him and then announced he's joined the front office in a player-development
role.

"He'll work with players, advising them on and off the court," said team
president Donnie Walsh. "My feeling is he'd be great in player development.
He's close to the game right now, having been a player, and I think he has a
better feel than those of us who aren't in the locker room all the time. Most
teams have that department within their franchise and we don't. It's a very
valid thing, particularly with very young players coming in."

Battling a leg injury throughout preseason, Houston, 37, never played in a
game. Houston last played in 2004-05, when he was limited to 20 games.
