Team Rating
Offense Defense
108.3 111.1
Frontcourt Grade: C
David Lee has developed into more than just a rebounder.
Wilson Chandler has shown potential as a jack of all trades.
The other bigs can spread the floor, but none plays D.
Backcourt Grade: C
Chris Duhon has been steady, while Quentin Richardson has
been hot and cold. Neither is a very good defender.
Defense Grade: D
The Knicks' defense is better than last season, but it still
has a long way to go. Without anyone that can block shots,
they get destroyed in the paint.
Bench Grade: D
Nate Robinson is an energizer who has had his moments, but
decision-making is always an issue. Danilo Gallinari has potential,
but the rest of the bench is thin.
Coaching Grade: B
Mike D'Antoni has had a lot to deal with, but he has kept his team
focused and they've come up with a few nice wins.

Overall Grade: C
Summary
The Knicks are thinking long-term, hoping to land a major free agent
in 2010, but they don't have much of a core in place to help lure a star.
Lee would be their best building block for the future, but New York may
not be able to afford him when his contract expires this summer.
With off-court drama and a slew of injuries, nobody's going to complain
if the Knicks don't make the playoffs. But they need to put the problems
of their past behind them, and as long as Stephon Marbury's name is on
the roster, that's not happening. The next priority should be developing
their youth (Chandler and Gallinari), while also looking to bring in players
who can help on the defensive end. -- John Schuhmann
