Sorry Hartford-based Knicks fans.
Amar'e Stoudemire will sit out Saturday's game at the Hartford Civic Center
vs. the Celtics -- the first night of a back-to-back -- to rest. The Knicks
face the Wizards on Sunday at the Garden.
The Knicks are treating Stoudemire like he's a Ming Vase, though he said he
feels terrific off his 30-point outing vs. the Celtics on Wednesday night.
Donnie Walsh would not allow him to play in the World Championships because
of insurance issues. Stoudemire's $100 million Knicks contract is uninsured
for a career-ending knee injury.
"We're paying him a lot of money,'' Mike D'Antoni said. "He's had injuries
and we don't want to be crazy about it. No use playing him back to back when
we don't have to.''
D'Antoni said Timofey Mozgov will start at center again, and Wilson Chandler
may move to power forward to replace Stoudemire. That allows a natural
shooting guard to play, and it will be either veteran Roger Mason or rookie
Landry Fields.
