Knicks’ Copeland Stands Out After Entrance Is Put Off


When the Knicks went into the locker room at halftime, Woodson felt good
about his team’s performance. But then his assistant coaches told him he had
not played Copeland, one of the few players trying to earn a spot on the
15-man roster.


當武僧在中場走進休息室時，他覺得他的球隊上半場表現還不錯，但是他的助理教練跟他說

Woodson adjusted, and Copeland entered the game late in the third quarter,
making an immediate impact and leading a group of reserves to a 98-95
comeback victory in overtime. In 19 minutes, Copeland scored 21 points and
had four rebounds.
“I’m still just thankful and blessed to have this opportunity, but I was
extremely anxious,” Copeland said of sitting on the bench for so long. “I
was just hoping to get a shot at it, and my teammates told me to stay ready.”


隨後靠譜蘭在下半場打出了一波CopelanSANITY，靠譜蘭賽後說:"我真的很感謝有這個機會，

Once he was in the game, Copeland found himself in a new role. Woodson used
Copeland in a smaller lineup that included four guards for the majority of
the fourth quarter and overtime. Copeland, who is 6-foot-8, ran pick-and-roll
plays with point guards Pablo Prigioni and Jason Kidd.

“I was learning on the fly, honestly,” said Copeland, who likes to shoot
from the outside. “I’ve seen it a lot in practice, and I know Coach
preaches being versatile for me, so that’s what I tried to do.”


靠譜蘭在這場比賽中終於發現自己的新角色了，武僧讓靠譜蘭去打PF(他跟瓜一樣高)，


並且跟老普和老基大玩P&R，他說:"我當時以為我崛起了，在練習中，教練對我說了很多教

“I thought he sat patiently and was probably wondering why he didn’t play
the first half,” Woodson said. “When we got him there, he played his butt
off.”

Kidd was on the court during overtime and was impressed with Copeland’s play.

“His name was called, and he responded, and that’s a true professional,”
 Kidd said. “It’s great to see. He has been working extremely hard in camp,
and it showed.”

Copeland said a stomach virus was the reason for his poor performance against
the Wizards.

“I had thrown up all night long,” he said. “I didn’t sleep much, and I
was really dehydrated coming into that game. I went out there, tried to get
through it.”

Woodson said he could tell Copeland, who has spent most of his career playing
in Europe, had improved since then.

think I can do a lot more.”

Jason Kidd played 34 minutes in Saturday's meaningless preseason game. But
the 39-year-old guard said he wasn't coming out because he wanted to win.


老基昨天打了34分鐘，他說:"我不想下場，因為我想要贏。"


Pablo Prigioni is 35 and experiencing his first NBA training camp. There may
never be a more accomplished NBA rookie than Prigioni, who owns an Olympic
bronze medal playing for Argentina as well as gold and silver medals from
international competition.
Kidd and Prigioni sparked the Knicks to a 98-95 overtime win over the Celtics
with their leadership, defense and ability to execute. They may not always
finish games together, but they probably will be on the floor at the same
time in the regular season.

Chandler said. "It's very rare that they're going to make a bad decision, and
they're doing it with younger guys. If you put those two guys with other
veterans, it can be really good."

Chris Copeland, who is trying to make the roster, scored 18 of his 21 points
in the fourth quarter and overtime. He was very active and played well, but
it was Kidd and Prigioni delivering Copeland the ball in pick-and-roll
situations that set up the rookie power forward for a layup or free-throw
opportunities.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson called the play of Kidd and Prigioni "fantastic"
after they totaled seven assists and four steals, and he likes what they can
provide for the Knicks in tandem.
"We talked about that when we brought the move to bring them both in, that
Kidd can guard [shooting guards] and [small forwards]," Woodson said. "It
frees Pablo to handle the ball. He kind of got fatigued at the end. But give
the ball to Kidd and now it's his turn to handle it. That's a nice combo to
have."

The Knicks will have plenty of combinations they can use, especially given
that shooting guard is unsettled. James White started Saturday, but either
Ronnie Brewer or Iman Shumpert -- both of whom are rehabbing from knee
surgeries -- is expected to be the full-time starter, with J.R. Smith backing
up.
Woodson definitely envisions Kidd playing shooting guard alongside Raymond
Felton or Prigioni. Kidd and Prigioni won't get rattled after having been
involved in so many big games -- so many games, period -- in their careers,
and they already enjoy playing together.

"He understands how to play the game," Kidd said. "It's not rocket science.
He keeps it simple, plays hard. He's fun to play with because he competes.
Throw age out. It's just basketball. We were just talking how easy it is to
play when you understand how to play the right way."
Added Prigioni, "It's easy to play with him. We are similar players because
we like to play pick-and-roll to create, to pass the ball. We understand each
other a lot. He helps me a lot. He talks to me. I feel great playing with
him."

Prigioni was the point guard on Argentina's 2008 bronze medal-winning team,
was voted the best point guard in the Spanish ACB League three times, and is
bringing that experience and toughness to the Knicks in his first NBA season.
"I'm 35," Prigioni said. "I'm not nervous and of course I don't feel like a
rookie. I feel like I started the season with another team, with great
players.
"I think basketball is basketball. I think I know how to play. If I
understand my teammates and my teammates understand me, it will be easy to
play because they're great players. If I have good players around me, it's
much easier to play."


老普說:"我認為籃球...就是籃球，我很清楚我知道怎麼打球，如果我可以了解我的隊友，


我的隊友也了解我，那麼事情就容易多了，因為她們都是很棒的球員，如果我身邊有這麼多


好球員，那麼打球就更容易了。"


“We’re going to try to, absolutely,’’ Woodson said. “My job as coach is
to juggle minutes based on who’s playing well. Minutes are going to be tough
to come by on this team.’’

在我們隊伍裡要好好的分配時間可是難事阿..."


“I’ve guarded everybody so much in my career,’’ said Kidd. “It’s
basketball. Make him take a tough shot. I can guard the 1, 2, 3, 4. In this
league you’ve seen teams gone small. You see Miami won a championship
without a center. The game is going smaller with smaller 4s. I guarded Melo
[Carmelo Anthony] before and he may have been at the 5 in Denver.’’


老基說:"在我生涯中我以經守過太多人了，這就是籃球，就是讓他難以出手，我可以守


1號到4號位(PG->PF)，你會看到有些球隊玩小球策略，你也看到熱火以沒有中鋒的姿態，

Said Woodson, “[Pablo] is playing great. In Washington, I thought he was
great defensively. [Saturday] he was putting heat on the ball. He played a
fantastic game.’’

Off the court, Prigioni is adjusting well. Though only trainer Anthony
Goenaga speaks his primary language, Spanish, Prigioni is fitting in.

“I enjoy the guys,’’ he said. “I’m surprised how many good persons are
in the locker room. In Europe, we have an idea in the States each player goes
by himself and not in a group. I don’t feel there’s any difference in this
locker room.’’


老普現在調整的很棒，雖然在尼克休息室裡只有一個教練會說西班牙語(他主要語言)，


但她現在很融入，老普說:"我很喜歡這幫傢伙，我對於這個休息室裡有這麼多這麼棒的人在

麼不同。"

Woodson claimed he forgot about him.

“He said he forgot?,’’ Copeland said. “He [has] got a lot more
responsibilities than me. I’m just glad he gave me the opportunity to play
in the second half. My teammates stayed behind me.”

靠譜蘭說:"他真的說她忘了?好吧，他有太多的責任在他身上了，我現在很感謝他給我


這麼多上場時間，我的隊友現在都在我後面了!"

Knicks took their first day off yesterday. Wallace could scrimmage for the
first time today.

Oct. 2. Amar'e Stoudemire, who missed the first two preseason games with a
bruised left knee, might return for practice Monday. The Knicks also are
expected to have updates on Rasheed Wallace (conditioning), Marcus Camby
(calf) and Brewer within the next few days.
