Mike Woodson, whose success with the #Knicks is built on accountability, was
pretty blunt about team's performance:
"We played awful," Woodson said after the 109-96 loss to the Rockets, which
saw the Knicks getting blown out on their home court for the first time this
season. It was the team's first home loss of the season and only the second
time the Knicks have lost at home during the regular season since Woodson
took over as head coach.

The Rockets shredded the Knicks defense, which began the season among the
best in the league but has recently started to become far more pedestrian.
After surrendering 109 points to Houston, the Knicks defense has now given up
over 100 points in three straight games and four of the last five.
In that span, the team is allowing 104.2 points per game. Mike Woodson was
most annoyed at the 52 points in the paint that the Knicks allowed saying his
team gave up "too many shots at the rim."
That in itself is a sign that the defensive positioning needs a refresher
course.
The middle of the court, especially in the lane, has been left too open.

Lost in the return of Jeremy Lin Monday night, was the play of rookie Chris
Copeland, who scored all of his game-high 29 points in the second half.

With Carmelo Anthony out, Copeland also posted career highs with 11 field
goals, 19 attempts, five rebounds, two steals and 28 minutes played.

“I still have growing to do – a lot more growing to do – but from a
scoring standpoint, the coaches have known that’s what I do,” Copeland said
of his ability to fill it up. “That’s something I hang my hat on … I’m
glad to have a little showing. We’ll just see how it goes from here.”

Twenty of Copeland’s points came after the Rockets had pulled away, 80-58,
on a Carlos Delfino three-ball with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter. But
Copeland still may have shown Woodson he has more depth in the frontcourt
than he’d realized. Early in Monday’s third quarter, Copeland – scored
nine straight points to help narrow the Rockets’ 56-42 halftime lead to
60-55 with 6:18 left in the third quarter.

Copeland proved he could handle the minutes necessary with Anthony, Rasheed
Wallace (sore left foot) and Marcus Camby (sore left foot), Iman Shumpert
(torn left ACL and meniscus) and Amar’e Stoudemire (left knee) all out.

“It makes us deeper,” Jason Kidd said. “So with 10 guys, everybody has to
play their best game, and tonight we didn’t, but two guys were definitely
playing well (Copeland and J.R. Smith). So for the future, Cope could now be
in that rotation spot.”
