內文集了很多篇報導,英文有錯幫忙糾正一下感溫喔~ Members of 1972-73 title team reflect on life after glory days 圖:http://ppt.cc/0JdY Back together again at Madison Square Garden for a "legends night" celebration, the surviving members of the Knicks' 1972-73 championship team were not tempted to organize an informal pickup game. "Not at this age," said Dick Barnett, the oldest of them at 76. Dick Barnett(現今成員中最老的-76歲):"呵呵,不要在這年紀做這種事好嗎?" Forty years after they ruled the NBA, they noted how much the game has changed. (You could start with the advent of the three-point shot, and how Jerry Lucas guessed he might have led the league in scoring.) And how all of them turned out in basketball retirement. "I roomed with Phil [Jackson]," Lucas said. "I had no idea he was interested in coaching. He had no idea he was interested in coaching. It just kind of fell into his lap, and now the history books have been written: 13 rings, 11 championship rings as a coach. Remarkable, remarkable career." Whether that career is over, "I'm not going to talk about that," Jackson said. "It's not the time to talk about it." 禪師出席圖:http://ppt.cc/HkyV (怎麼跟CC有點像= =) Phil Jackson made two concessions on Friday to his post-Knick career: He showed up late for the pregame press conference so he wouldn’t upstage his old teammates, and he wore a ’96 Bulls championship ring. “It’s the only one that fits,” he insisted. (這年的公年隊創下72勝的紀錄) Jackson was a role player back then, and he wanted to reprise that part. He had dined together with his teammates on Thursday, joined the debate to argue whether the ’73 Knick team was better than the first title team in ’70. “We don’t have a whole lot of years left,” Jackson, 67, said, laughing, explaining why it was so important for him to attend this reunion. “I don’t know if we could make it to 50.” Jackson had promised Earl Monroe he would be here, even though the wife of Jackson’s son is expecting the birth of a child. Jackson came, despite memories of being jeered here so often in recent years. “The first time I was booed, it surprised me,” he said. Jackson didn’t want to talk about whether he would ever return to coach. “It’s not the place to do that,” he said. He wanted to talk about that ’73 team, and about the Garden. “When I was here with Chicago for the playoffs, I remember feeling the floor moving and thinking how much magic there was in the building,” he said. Jackson expected a “muted” greeting this time. Instead he received a rousing ovation during the halftime tribute. It’s a fair question to ask the old Knicks: Would the three-point shot have wrecked the beautiful, precious flow of their offense? Dave DeBusschere and Jerry Lucas had great range, yet most of the players said they wanted no part of such a game changer. “Thank God we didn’t have the three-point line,” Bill Bradley said. “It would have messed up our game. Back then, basketball was played with finesse, with your feet. Now it’s about three-pointers and upper-body strength.” Bill Bradley:"感謝上帝,信好我們當時沒有三分球,這可是會打亂我們的比賽,當時的 籃球技巧重視的是下肢,但現在的三分射手重視的是上半身。" Yet, the intangibles that carried the 1972-73 Knicks to a title still apply today and need to be part of the current Knicks’ DNA if they are to have any chance of reaching the pinnacle this season or next. “Teamwork, chemistry, guys understanding how to take advantage of our assets, ” are what Barnett said were the keys to the Knicks’ championship run. “We knew that we were more effective as a team than individuals. It’s still a successful formula.” “We weren’t the biggest, the strongest, the fastest, but we were the most prepared,” Lucas said. “You have to have all the intangibles. You have to understand the game. You have to know how to take advantage of the other team. You have to apply pressure to them that gets them out of what they want to do. You have to do all the basics of basketball to be the best.” Jerry Lucas:"我們在當時不是最高大的,不是最強壯的,也不是最快的,但是我們做了 最充足的準備,你得要擁有那些無形的貢獻,你得要了解如何比賽,你得要知道如何善用 優勢,你得要盡可能地去對其他球隊施壓,讓他們無法隨心所欲,你得要把籃球的所有基本 都做到最好。" "We were small, quick, good ballhandlers, a great passing team," Jackson said. Jackson said. "Seven guys in double figures, a roster filled with Hall of Fame players. And we bonded in a way which I tried to coach the players that I coached over the years in the same way." (...等等,那老大是怎麼回事= =") “They’re a good team. I think they’ve come a long way in, what, the last two-and-a-half weeks? They’ve put together some games, and they’re starting to make a run,” Jackson said before the Atlantic Division-leading Knicks tried for their 11th consecutive win. “It’s the right time of the year to get healthy. They’ve got some injuries, whatever, but they’ve kind of survived it. “And they’re going to challenge. I think they’re going to challenge. There ’s a hope in this town that maybe they can surprise some people and win this year.” Knicks Hall of Fame center Willis Reed readily admits he’s not a betting man. But after he and the Knicks won their second NBA championship in 1973, he would have plunked down a few bucks the next title would have arrived well before the 40-year mark the franchise is now approaching. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the year, Reed said. Obviously, there is a monster obstacle known as the Miami Heat in the way, but with a little luck and a lot of health, it could be done. A real lot of health, Reed emphasized. “The biggest thing for you now is to get yourself completely healthy and ready for the playoffs,” Reed said before the Knicks earned their 11th straight victory with a 101-83 victory over the Bucks Friday night at the Garden. “I would love to see them and Miami for the Eastern title. That would be great. I would like to see them get totally healthy and play like they have the last 10 games.” Earl Monroe, speaking for the old-timers, told the fans, "We deserve you as much as you deserve us . . . and let's keep our hands crossed, our fingers crossed, for the [current] team." Many of the old Knicks couldn't have predicted their futures. "[Bill] Bradley's the only guy we knew who had political aspirations," Walt Frazier said of the former New Jersey senator. "I never saw Jackson as a coach. I never saw me in broadcasting. I never saw Barnett as Dr. Barnett" with his PhD in education. "But they say that was one of the smartest teams ever. And I think that alludes to how guys have thrived after their playing days." Walt Frazier:"好吧我們只知道Bradley在當時就有政治抱負了,他後來也成了紐澤西的 議員。" Mike Woodson had dinner with the ’73 legends on Thursday night. The Knicks coach even collected a few autographs. What impressed him most was the bond shared 40 years ago was still evident. “When you see 40 years of history return, that’s pretty special,” Woodson said. “That just shows me they were committed way back when. Senator Bradley said it. They had a lot of All-Stars on that particular team. But that didn’ t mean anything. It was the unselfish play that occurred on the floor that stood out. It was the reason they won a title.” -------------------------------------------------- 參考 http://ppt.cc/TM-Y http://ppt.cc/KIWQ http://ppt.cc/H4sL http://ppt.cc/ne8f -------------------------------------------------- -- ─∥ ── =" ψsherry821224 ────────────── \ Teammates don't ̄◣ ̄╲ ̄╲ λ play with each _ -.╳ ︶- other, they play ρ\ `, ▲ FOR each other. ─∥ _╱ ╲╲_◢ | ────────…‥.
