New York Knicks Reportedly Agree to Deal For Raptors' Andrea Bargnani

According to Howard Beck of The New York Times, the New York Knicks have
reportedly agreed to acquire Andrea Bargnani from the Toronto Raptors.

Per Beck's report, the Knicks are offering Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and two
draft choices.
That package would represent a steep price for the former first overall draft
choice.




Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports confirmed Beck's report that a deal
between both sides has progressed in a meaningful way. However, Wojnarowski's
reported trade package differs slightly from the initial report.


If a deal were to occur, it would continue a week of blockbuster trades.

Bargnani was taken in the 2006 NBA draft over the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge,
Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay. Now 27, the Italian power forward has experienced a
tumultuous career in which his strong numbers have been panned by critics
both locally and across the NBA.

Most recently, the 7'0" power forward averaged 12.7 points and 3.7 rebounds
in 28.7 minutes of action during the 2012-13 NBA regular season.

To swap Camby and Novak for Bargnani wouldn't be such a loss for the Knicks,
as the former has struggled to stay healthy and the latter is equally as
one-dimensional. With Bargnani possessing elite size, there is undeniable
upside.

With that being said, the Knicks have just two players under 28 years old,
and giving away two draft choices would be a disastrous decision.


Of their seven first-round draft picks since 2006, just two remain on the
current roster. That includes 2013 draft choice Tim Hardaway Jr., which thus
brings into perspective the Knicks' unwillingness to get younger and build
through the draft.

This appears to be yet another example of New York attempting to build a
contender through free agency and trades.

The Knicks are not alone in expressing their interest for Bargnani, as Marc
Stein of ESPN reports that the Los Angeles Clippers are seeking a trade for
he and DeMar DeRozan.

With the offseason upon us, it seems like the blockbusters will continue.
