Fewer double-teams on D?

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Knicks ranked a dismal 19th in opponent field goal
percentage last season. Making matters worse, they were 25th in opponent's
3-point percentage last season. Those are two recipes for disaster on
defense.

Many observers chalked this up to the amount of double-teams the Knicks used
last season. The doubles-teams, when executed with the wrong personnel, left
opposing shooters open on the perimeter and left the lane open for drives to
the rim.

Well, Mike Woodson hopes to put an end to that this year.
He said Monday that he'd like to use fewer double-teams in 2013-14.

"If you watched our team early on [last season] before the injuries started
to creep in, we didn't double in the post because we had six bigs," Woodson
said. "All those bigs could play guys one on one so that kept us out of
rotation. And I would like to get back to that where we don't have to double
as much. We only try to double key guys -- the LeBrons, the Kobe's, the
Wade's, the Durants."

air for the season opener. He ran with his teammates on Monday but did not
participate in the 5-on-5 scrimmage. Stoudemire underwent a knee procedure
over the summer -- his third in the past 12 months -- and he hasn't taken any
contact on the floor in preseason.

his hometown of Baltimore for his first time as a pro on Thursday when the
Knicks face the Wizards in a preseason game. Anthony grew up in Brooklyn but
moved to Baltimore with his family when he was seven.
