Puyol drops ￡120,000 for new Barcelona deal

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has verbally agreed a new contract - on
reduced terms.
The Spanish international and his agent, Ramon Sostres, have given the nod
to the new deal proposed by Barca president Joan Laporta, which will bring him
under the club's new wage cap.
Formal talks will be opened in September, but the contract is expected to
be inked by Puyol without any fuss.
Puyol is sacrificing a cool ￡120,000-a-year, but with bonus add-ons, if
Barca can win trophies this season he will still come out in front on his
present contract.
