Coach speak: Rudy Tomjanovich spoke for the first time since O'Neal was traded
and Bryant re-signed, saying he would be open to the idea of pairing Lamar Odom
 and Bryant in the backcourt for some sets next season.

"I don't know if we've got enough big players up front to make them the backcou
rt guys," Tomjanovich said. "Lamar and Kobe are multiple players, at least thre
e position guys. There would be times we might do that."

Tomjanovich said he prayed that Bryant would return to the Lakers and was happy
 with the overall outcome from the moves. He has started piecing together playe
rs in a lineup, albeit preliminarily.

But with only two post players on his roster -- Brian Cook and Brian Grant -- T
omjanovich joked that he and assistant Larry Smith were considering suiting up
again.

Familiar face: Vlade Divac told the Sacramento Bee that the Kings, Phoenix, Cli
ppers and Lakers all have shown interest in signing him. Divac added that none
of the four teams has offered him its midlevel exception.

"I would be a happy man, and my whole family would be happy if we stay here," h
e told the Bee. "This is my team, these are my fans in a great town with great
people. The Lakers are in a similar situation where there are people I know who
 did a lot of good things for me. ... I want to play for a decent team and make
 some decent money."

Divac said Sacramento ranked fourth on the list right now. The Lakers also repo
rtedly have contacted Detroit guard Mike James and continue to wait on Slava Me
dvedenko.

Numbers game: Odom, Grant and Caron Butler could not have the jersey numbers th
ey had with Miami. Odom got No. 5, with No. 7 belonging to Cook. Grant took No.
 55, with No. 44 retired for Jerry West. And Butler got No. 1, with Luke Walton
 owning No. 4.
