Despite not having a pick in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft, the Los
Angeles Lakers managed to get two absolute steals in the second round. With
the 43rd and 58th picks, they selected Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter,
respectively.

雖然在2010年NBA選秀中並沒有第一輪選秀權，
但是洛杉磯湖人隊在第二輪精挑細選的兩個選秀絕對是物超所值。
他們用第43和第58順位的選秀權，選了Devin Ebanks和Derrick Caracter。

Ebanks is a 6-9 small forward whose playing style bears an almost uncanny
resemblance to Trevor Ariza. He is a capable defender who can cut and slash
through the paint with impressive athleticism. On top of that, he has also
proven himself to be a very underrated shooter.

Ebanks was asked about the inevitable comparisons to Ariza after one of the
Lakers’ summer league games.

“Everybody says that [about Ariza] but I’m just trying to play like Devin
Ebanks.  Everybody says I look like him but I’m just trying to focus on me.”

Through four summer league games, Ebanks has averaged 16 points on 41.4
percent shooting. Although his defensive skill can’t be entirely measured by
statistics, he is also averaging 1.5 steals per game.

在這四場夏季聯賽當中，Ebanks場均16分，平均命中率為41.4%。
儘管他的防守技巧並不能完全由統計數據中得到精確的評價，

With numbers that are far more impressive than those of rookies selected
before him, Ebanks was asked if he felt as though he should have gone higher
in the draft.

Caracter has also shown himself to be a diamond in the rough for the Lakers.
Initially considered to be undersized for the power forward position at 6-9,
his ability to utilize his large 265 pound frame has made him a player of
interest in summer league.

Through four games, Caracter has put up three straight double-doubles before
the streak finally came to an end against the Sacramento Kings. Still, his
summer league numbers are impressive. With averages of 16.8 points on 60.4
percent shooting, 9.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks a game, Caracter has been a
bright spot for the defending champions.

Both Ebanks and Caracter have something to play for. As second round picks,
their contracts may not initially be guaranteed by the Lakers.

Recently, Lakers GM, Mitch Kupchak spoke on the rookies’ impressive play.

“For second-round picks they played well.  That’s what summer league is for
to see what they can do,” said Kupchak.  “A lot of times if they play well
at summer league what that really means is that they’re worthy of an

now, get invited to veteran’s camp and so far so good.

“They’re both high quality players…It’s kind of a function of where you’
re drafted – it doesn’t always work out… Typically second-round picks have
to work harder to make the roster – so that’s what they’re going to have
to do.”

Despite everything, Caracter is only focused on the things he can control.

“It starts off with finishing off strong the rest of my summer, getting
invited to veteran’s camp,” said Caracter.  “Take one day at a time
through the season and help in whatever way possible, whether it’s 15
seconds or 15 minutes – try to help L.A. keep winning.”

Still, he is keeping an eye on his team’s biggest rivals, the Miami Heat.

“You see guys now teaming up with each other just to get a ring.  It’s not
an accident, those guys are like that.  It goes to show you that
championships are important,” said Derrick.  “There are a lot of great
players that are great but because they never won a championship, they were
never held to a certain standard.”

Both Ebanks and Caracter appear to be stand-up players on, and off the court.
Based on their impressive showings during summer league, it is likely that
both will find a place on the Lakers’ roster come 2010-11.

看起來，Ebanks和Caracter兩人，
無論在場上還是場外都是能憑藉自己能力而站穩腳跟的球員。
根據他們在夏季聯盟中的出色表現，很有可能在接下來的2010-11年賽季中，
兩人都能在湖人隊的輪替陣容裡占有自己的一席之地。
