It seemed that the champagne had barely finished flowing when there were
strong indications that the Laker frontcourt bench would be getting
remodeled. The trio of Pau, Bynum and Lamar has proven to be undefeated when
healthy. But health has not been a luxury for the front court. Bynum barely
limped past the finish line, and Luke Walton struggled with back problems all
season. The front office went to work improving the reserves...
看來，當湖人的前場透露出補強的跡象，我們是應該開瓶香檳樂一下。
砲姐、小拜和老二三名大漢已經證明了他們在健康的時候是所向披靡的。
但是健康對我們的前場似乎是種奢望，
小拜勉強跛著腳跟著紫金大軍衝線，我疼更是整個賽季都在跟背傷糾纏，
於是我們的戰情室還是得找些備胎……

Let's start with the changes:
讓我們從新同學開始聊吧：

MATT BARNES
咩棒

While the Lakers were quick to pounce on Steve Blake, they looked for
bargains to fill their backup SF needs. They lucked out when Matt Barnes'
options dwindled and his former team went another direction. In Barnes, the
Lakers get a versatile two-way player who provides a nice contrast behind Ron
Artest.
當湖人飛快的去套牢小黑之後，他們對於SF的補強就只能找些較廉價的人選。
他們非常好運：咩棒因為前東家的方針而導致選擇變的更少。
拿到咩棒，湖人得到了個好用的搖擺人球員，跟蓉蓉可以拿來做個比較。

Offensively, Barnes is a respectable (but not great) three shooter. He's more
effective from the wings than he is the corners or straight away. He has
little use for the midrange game, preferring to move the ball or get into the
paint. You can't sleep on him like you might be able to with Luke or Ron
sometimes from the perimeter. When the D is occupied, he will cut off the
ball, take the pass, go to the rim with the dribble if possible and finish.
This off-ball movement also translates in some offensive rebounding
opportunities. Like Ariza, Barnes shouldn't be a ball-dominant player in this
offense. You won't see him trying to create his own shot. If he doesn't have
a good opportunity, he'll move the ball. Barnes isn't as quick up and down
the floor as Ariza was, but he's plenty fast.

Defensively, he's versatile enough to cover multiple positions. Phil will use
him largely as a back up for Artest and Kobe (depending on the SG match up).
But against a team like the Heat, he should be much more effective against
LeBron than against Wade. (Barnes actually had some very good moments last
year against LeBron defensively.) The trio of Kobe, Artest and Barnes at the
2/3 spots is as formidable defensive unit at those positions as there is in
the league. Two-way impact ball is what wins in the playoffs and those guys
can bring it. Barnes isn't a consistent impact player, but he'll give the
team a greater overall percentage of two-way impact ball on the court.
Perhaps, he'll have the occasional big game. Last year, his high games
included a 28-point game against Denver (who on our bench last year could do
that?), 16 boards against Indiana and 7 assists against the Lakers. Maybe
this will be the team and situation where Barnes finally finds a home.
防守面來看：他在這方面的造詣可以使他勝任多個防守位置。
禪師將會大量啟用他來作為蓉蓉和科科的替補(根據SG是否錯位而調整)。
但是面對像是熱火這樣的球隊，

在這個聯盟，科科，蓉蓉和咩棒在二三號位上都是難以應付的防守個體。
攻守兩端的均衡就是他們在季後賽獲勝的本錢，他們可以完美展現這點。
咩棒並不是一個特別突出影響力的球員，
但是它可以對球隊整體攻守在場上產生更大的加分。
更何況他偶爾還會突然打出代表作。
去年球季，他的代表作包括對金塊砍下28分，(去年我們的板凳有誰能做到？)
對溜馬抓下16籃板和對湖人傳出七次助攻。
也許洛杉磯真的會是咩棒最後找到的家和歸屬。


THEO RATLIFF
鍋神

The third-string center job is now in the hands of veteran Theo Ratliff.
While he doesn't have Mbenga's athleticism, Ratliff is still an effective
shotblocker in the paint. Theo had 4 blocked shots in a game four different
times last year. (One hopes that he can mentor Bynum in the finer points
craft.) He started 29 games last season, splitting time with the Spurs and
Bobcats. With the Cats, he averaged 22 minutes a game. With the Spurs, he
averaged 8.7 minutes. How often will Phil use him?

雖然沒有剛果人那樣的運動力，鍋神在禁區仍舊是個很有阻絕效果的火鍋王。

在山貓隊平均上場22分鐘，在馬刺則只有8.7分鐘，
禪師會多久讓他上場一次呢？

Certainly, Mbenga didn't get that kind of run. Why? First, he was behind two
impact bigmen in Bynum and Pau at that position. Second, Phil simply didn't
trust him completely. He didn't quite know what he'd get and for Phil, that's
one of his biggest fears as a coach. And Mbenga gave him plenty of that fear
factor, often throwing a wrench in the offense and throwing off the flow.
That "trust" factor shouldn't be as pronounced with Ratliff. He's a vet. You
know what you get with a vet. Phil prefers known quantities.
不過確實，剛果人不太能勝任這個角色。為什麼？
首先，這個位置的上場要排在兩個具有非凡影響力的大個子：小拜和砲姐後面，

So what does that mean? It may allow Phil to rest his bigmen just a little
more during the course of the season. That's good news for Bynum and Pau.
And, bottomline, that probably means more overall impact than Congo Cash. But
don't expect a lot. His highs in scoring were 11 points against the
bigman-challenged Warriors and 11 boards against the Wizards. These numbers
were nearly the same as Mbenga's best games, as well.
所以這代表什麼呢？

Theo's impact should be more on the "glue" side of things. Throw him in the
mix and he might not stand out as much. He's still a decent weakside shot
blocker, a presence in the paint. That allows the Laker perimeter players to
aggressively defend. And, it may allow the Laker bigmen to be a hair more
aggressive in their help D, as well, if they know Theo can fit into the
schemes easily and hold down the fort longer than Mbenga. Phil may also use
him at the PF spot on occasion, as well. That all depends on what happens
with the young big the Lakers stole in the draft.

DERRICK CARACTER
卡拉

Although there wasn't a tremendous amount of impact ball in the summer league
this year, Caracter was one of the few standout bigmen. This was recognized
by international teams that tried to entice him overseas. It also parlayed
him into a guaranteed first year of his contract. Not bad for nearly the last
guy picked in the draft, something Caracter is using as a motivating factor
with his choice of No. 58 for his jersey number.
雖然沒有在今年的夏季聯賽中沒有太多球員展現出對球的影響力，
卡拉卻依然表現出自己是那些出色大個子中的其中一個。
這從被他吸引想延攬他至海外當傭兵的團隊就可窺知一二，
還有押注在他身上的第一年保障合約。
對於這個在選秀會上最後一個被選中的孩子來說，
選擇58號來作為自己的背號並不是一件壞事。

Summer league is one thing, preseason is another...and the regular season
something else, as well. What did the scouts like about Caracter's game?
夏季聯賽是一回事，季前賽是另一回事，而季賽則差的更遠。
那卡拉的比賽內容，看點到底在哪裡呢？

Offensively, he was a steady force in the summer league. In the post, he
consistently rocked defenders off the block, overpowering them and drawing
double teams. It reminded me of how stronger players overpowered Brian Cook
in the summer leagues of Laker past. Caracter's strength is legit. So is his
ability to create space and finish with both hands. He showed a very mature
post game. But what happens when he runs into the bigger, stronger players of
the NBA...will he still be effective?
進攻上來看：他在夏季聯盟是一股穩定的力量。
在他的位置上，他持續的撼動防守者的阻隔，壓制他們並迫使他們對自己包夾。
他的統治力甚至提醒我當年廚師在夏季聯盟是怎麼被吃人夠夠的，

但是如果把他放到更大，更強球員充斥的NBA，他還能有如此的效率嗎？

Caracter showed a very consistent perimeter game, with range out to 20 feet.
The versatility to go inside and out will serve him very, very well in his
career. In the triangle offense, versatility is your best friend. The more
interchangeable you are, the more opportunities you will have. He'll have
pinch-post, face-up jumpers; weak-to-strong flashes to the ball for
15-footers; post ups to work as a hub in the low post; and the two-man pick
and pops that a guy like Blake loves to set up and Chicago bigmen lived off
of in the triangle during the Bulls two three-peats.
卡拉在比賽中表現的非常一致，他的活動範圍大概就到20呎附近。

But surely a No. 58 pick can't make an impact, can they? The league has had a
blind spot of sorts for certain bigmen. Steals can be had in the second
round: A range of talent with similar size like Carlos Boozer, Paul Milsap,
Brandon Bass, Ryan Gomes, Craig Smith, Dejuan Blair, Glen Davis, etc., have
all come from the second round. That's a range of talent, but any bigman who
sticks in the league after getting drafted in the second round is a good
pick.
不過一個58順位的球員可以造成這樣的影響力嗎？
聯盟在這樣在分類這樣的大個子上早已有些盲點。
在第二輪淘金也早已不是新聞：有天賦而身材卻小一號的球員早有
Carlos Boozer，Paul Milsap，Brandon Bass，Ryan Gomes，Craig Smith， Dejuan

Will Mitch Kupchak now add Caracter to his second-round bigman steals in
Ronny Turiaf and Marc Gasol? Think of it...if this was Jerry West who landed
those picks and now has another potential steal on his hands at the 58 spot,
would you be thinking different of Caracter's potential right now? Should you
be thinking differently of Mitch?
現在庫胖可以把卡拉和跳跳虎和卡獸弟一起列到他的第二輪神偷清單裡了嗎？
想想……，如果現在是West拿到同樣的選秀權，也用58號簽偷到一個潛力股，
現在你對卡拉的想法有沒有改變呢？
為什麼同樣的事情，人們就要對庫胖投不信任票呢？

The part of Caracter's skill set that appears to still need maturing is
adjusting to the NBA defensive game. He was foul prone in the summer league.
Some of it was him clearly not being used to the way the NBA calls the post.
Some of it was just late to react to the speed of the game. And, maybe a
little was needing a couple more inches to contest cleanly. Still, he held
his own against the better players. He was rarely over-matched in the post.
關於卡拉的技巧部分，他依舊需要使之更成熟，調整至能面對NBA防守的等級。
他在夏季聯盟有犯規過多的傾向，
有些犯規是因為它並沒有被放在以往他常打的位置上，
有些則是單純跟不上比賽速度，太慢做出反應所導致。
可能也是需要一個好搭檔去競爭的更明確一些。
不過他在面對比自己更好的球員時依然能做好份內的事情，
他在防守的時候極少失去有利的站位。

The skills are there. Will it translate to more minutes than Powell behind LO
and Pau? That would be very surprising in his first year, unless the Lakers
have more blowouts than they did last year. His perimeter game could make an
interesting mix with another skilled perimeter shooter in Pau. Phil will play
a rookie that shows he belongs on the floor. In that way, Caracter is a
wildcard in the mix this season. If he plays, no doubt Laker fans will be
very pleased with getting something at the 58 spot...and continually annoyed
with announcers and headline writers trying to be clever with puns on his
name.

除非今年湖人禁區大爆胎的情況比去年還要嚴重，不然上場時間應該不意外。

DEVIN EBANKS
小班

With Luke Walton's health in limbo, Ebanks has a very strong chance of making
the team. He nearly had a strong change at seeing some decent minutes this
season. The addition of Matt Barnes, however, probably puts Ebanks into the
Sun Yue/Adam Morrison role this season. The depth at the SF goes Artest,
Barnes and Kobe before Ebanks is even tossed into the mix.
在我疼的健康狀況一直未明朗的情況下，小班有非常大的機率能加入輪替陣容。
他也有差不多的機率能在這個賽季表現出不錯的素質。
然而在咩棒加入之後，可能會把小班擠到板凳末段，就像孫悅和摸女生那樣。
在SF這個位置上的深度，在有了蓉蓉、咩棒、和偶爾代打的科科之後，
現在可以算小班一份了。

Ariza-like in looks and perhaps some of his game, EBanks showed a
better-than-advertised jumper in the summer league (something Ariza didn't
have coming into the league). Ebanks three range was there consistently and
can certainly be made into a consistent weapon over time. He also showed some
nice midrange from the elbows that will be available within the triangle.
Ebanks has good athleticism (not the explosiveness that Trevor had) and
serviceable handles.
不只長得像，就連比賽內容也神似亞梨莎，
夏季聯盟小班展現出比外界評價更令人驚艷的跳投能力，
(某些亞梨莎在進入聯盟時還沒有的東西，)

Defensively, he takes pride in his game. Having a player like Artest at his
position to learn from will only help him improve. Ebanks seemed to be a
little slow with some of his reaction time in the summer league. The NBA will
only get faster and that will be a key adjustment he will have to make before
playing to his defensive potential.
防守的部分，他可以對他的表現自豪。
有蓉蓉這樣的球員在他的位置前面對他來說只有好沒有壞。
在夏季聯盟的內容看來，小班的反應時間似乎是有點慢。
到了NBA只會更快，所以這對他來說將是很關鍵的調整，
在他上場之前展現他的防守天賦之前，他必須要克服這這個弱點。
