Shaw has a reason for his lack of timeouts
Share Brian Shaw, filling in for ailing Phil Jackson, called only one
timeout in his coaching debut in San Diego.
It wasn’t that Shaw wanted to see the Lakers and Golden State Warriors run
up and down the court or that he thought the game was going smoothly. He had
an ulterior motive.
“You see in the locker room how hot it is and how much it smells and you
want to get out of here as quick as possible,” he said. “So I only called
one timeout because I wanted the game to go by fast.”
The Lakers played Thursday’s exhibition in the antiquated San Diego Sports
Arena, which seemingly hasn’t undergone many upgrades since the Clippers
left. The locker rooms are tiny, hot and in this case, smelled like rotten
eggs.

Bynum: no jumping or explosive running yet
Share With the regular season less than a week away, the Lakers continue to
take a wait-and-see approach with Andrew Bynum’s recovery from July 28 right
knee surgery.
Bynum has been cleared by his personal doctor, David Altchek, to do certain
agility and strength exercises. He can even do a few minor individual things
on the court.
He has not been OK’d to do any jumping or explosive running yet, which would
be the next stage in his rehabilitation. Bynum’s plan for the past month has
been to make his season debut in late November.
