Matt Barnes 執行球員選擇權續留湖人一年

Citing frustration over the Lakers' four-game sweep in the Western Conference
semifinals sweep to the Dallas Mavericks and over his limited effectiveness
following right knee surgery , Lakers forward Matt Barnes said Tuesday that he
will exercise his $1.91 million option to return to the Lakers.

"I'll be a Laker next year," Barnes said after Mike Brown's introductory press
conference. "I want to win. It's a great opportunity."

That's a small dose of good news to an otherwise uncertain offseason. Brown's
press conference demonstrated that sentiment as he fielded plenty of questions
in a 40-minute press conference on whether he's suited to bring the Lakers to
another championship. Barnes serving as the only player in attendance raises
questions on whether the team truly supports Brown's arrival, though Barnes and
team officials insisted most players are on vacation and altering vacation
plans might've been dicey since the Lakers didn't announce Brown's press
conference until Memorial Day. And of course, there's Barnes himself, who
continues to rehab his surgically repaired right knee.

"It doesn't hurt no more," Barnes said, though he added swelling remains and
that he's a month away from being able to run and jump.

Other than the progression on his knee and his uncertain job security, Barnes'
offseason has hardly been relaxing even if he spent the last 2 1/2 weeks on
vacation. He's refused to watch the NBA playoffs because of the Lakers' early
playoff early elimination. He still constantly thinks about suffering a lateral
meniscus tear Jan. 7, an injury that sidelined him for 29 games. And anytime he
walks out the door of his Palos Verdes home, Barnes'  twin two-year-old sons
<strong>Carter Kelly</strong> and <strong>Isiah Michael</strong> believe he's
 off to practice or a game. Barnes hasn't exactly lied to his kids. He just
never bothered telling them otherwise since the frustration still lingers, the
exact reason why he wants to come back to the Lakers.

"The bitter taste in my mouth from here on out drove me to not want to go
anywhere else," said Barnes, who also acknowledged have stability after playing
with eight different teams in his nine-year NBA career also influenced his
decision. "I want to come back to right the ship."
