Kobe resumes shooting but won’t play Tuesday
Kobe Bryant on Monday resumed shooting for the first time since
sitting out with his sore left shin, but he is not expected to
return to action Tuesday night vs. San Antonio.
Bryant was able to get shots up without pain, and he will graduate
to running and jumping to test the inflamed tendon sheath in the
shin. He will accompany the team on the road right after the game
Tuesday night at Staples Center for another game Wednesday night
at Golden State.
The Lakers have a day off — and possible practice Thursday in San
Francisco — before playing in San Antonio on Friday night. The
regular season concludes with a home game Sunday vs. Oklahoma City
and then three days off before an April 26 game at Sacramento.
Bryant said during the ABC telecast Sunday that he would return
well before the end of the regular season.
Bryant’s cautiousness with this injury is based on the fact that
his condition and pain is expected to return unless he lets it
calm down entirely. Lakers athletic trainer Gary Vitti has been
telling Lakers coach Mike Brown that Bryant is “getting closer,”
but Vitti also said it is a rare ailment.
