Kiefer Ends Chela's Run Monday, 23 January, 2006 by Bren O'Brien German No.21 seed Nicolas Kiefer has progressed through to the quarter finals of Australian Open 2006 with a straight-sets win over Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela on Vodafone Arena on Day Eight. Kiefer, who made the final eight at Melbourne Park in 2000 and 1998, had little trouble with Chela, who had knocked out No.3 seed Lleyton Hewitt earlier in the tournament, winning 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 6-3 in two hours and 22 minutes. Both men were strong on serve early in the match, forcing the first set into a tie-breaker which Kiefer claimed with relative ease. The second set was in stark contrast, with six breaks of serve, four to Kiefer and two to Chela and the German racing to a two-set lead. Chela steadied in the third set, playing much more consistent tennis, but Kiefer made the most of his chances, breaking the Argentine then sealing a spot against either Paul-Henri Mathieu or his French counterpart Sebastien Grosjean. -- 神 在 祂 的 天 堂 裡 這 個 世 界 平 安 無 事 http://blog.yam.com/the_utopia -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.129.1.99
