[澳網] Nalbandian makes easy pickings of Aussie

Argentine David Nalbandian has dashed the hopes of Queenslander Robert Smeets
with a convincing 6-1 6-1 7-6 (7-3) win on Day 2 of the Australian Open 2008.

The No.10 seed looked comfortable out on Show Court Three, showing no signs of
an injury-interrupted lead-up to the tournament.

Nalbandian combined smart play with his trademark backhand, passing the
Australian at the net on numerous occasions.

The Argentine broke Smeets twice in the first set, the second with a beautiful
backhand winner for a 5-1 lead.

After serving out the set, Nalbandian again pressured Smeets and broke for a
2-0 lead in the second.

A double fault handed Nalbandian the second set 6-1, although Smeets began to
tighten his game leading into the third.

The Australian wildcard forced the set to a tiebreaker, but eventually
succumbed seven points to three.
