Next Floor For Table Tennis
A large banner with a photograph of CHIANG Peng-Lung in the top left hand
corner and CHUAN Chih-Yuan in the bottom right, adorns one end of the main
playing hall in the Taipei Municipal Gymnasium as play commences in the TMS
Chinese Taipei Open on Thursday 16th June 2005, the latest tournament on the
ITTF Pro Tour.

Two halls are being used for the event and it must be unique in the fact that
one hall is on the ground floor with four tables, the second hall is on the
fourth floor with eight tables and the practice hall is on the seventh floor.
However, commuting is quite simple, the lift only goes to floors one, four
and seven; access to the remaining floors, which are for administration
purposes, are by an alternative means.
比賽場地有兩個，一樓有四張桌子，四樓有八張桌子，另外七樓是練習場，
有十二張桌子。電梯只有停這三層樓，所以交通也很方便....
Next Door
“I hope that in future we can stage major table tennis tournaments in the
new building next door”, explained LIN Hai Ching, the Vice Secretary General
of the Chinese Taipei Table Tennis Association and the Tournament Director
for the TMS Chinese Taipei Open. Next door, is a `state-of-the-art’
building, glass fronted, impressive, standing out from the adjoining
architecture on the Nanjing Road East and scheduled to be available to host
events from October 2005.

還是主秘的林老先生如是說。隔壁的建築就是指台北棒球場改建的那棟，2005年10月會
完工。
“There’s seating for fifteen thousand spectators in the new hall”, smiled
LIN Hai Ching. “Table tennis is very popular in Taipei and it’s good for
the future to have a tournament that sees many very good players taking part.
”
「新的場館可以容納1萬5千人，」林老先生笑著說道，「桌球在台灣非常受歡迎，
如果將來能辦個錦標賽讓許多優秀選手參加就太讚了。

The two halls being used for the TMS Chinese Taipei Open this year are
identical, with the tired seating fully extended, potentially a total of two
thousand spectators in each hall, can be accommodated and it seems that on
the last three days of the tournament the atmosphere could well be electric.

“We made tickets available last week”, continued LIN Hai Ching. “Within no
time at all every ticket had gone for Friday, Saturday and Sunday!”

所有門票就都被拿光了。」
Very encouraging and certainly LIN Hai Ching, who has worked for the Chinese
Taipei Table Tennis Association for over twenty years and also enjoys
basketball, had every right to be enthusiastic about the future. “We’re
very pleased to be hosting an ITTF Pro Tour tournament”, he continued. “I
hope that we’ll be able to do the same again next year.”

Certainly, the potential is in evidence; a magnificent venue next door to the
one being used in 2005, quality hotel accommodation within walking distance
and above enthusiasm for table tennis, perhaps the most essential quality of
all.
的確，可能性就在證據裡；2005年的場館隔壁有棟宏偉的新館，走路就能到的大飯店，
還有對桌球的熱情。
