Every major international table tennis tournament is important; a medal is
another credential on a player’s career record. However, for members of the
Chinese Women’s Team the forthcoming ITTF Pro Tour tournaments, the Liebherr
Qatar Open and the Liebherr Kuwait Open, have an added importance.
每一項主要的國際桌球賽事都有其重要性；獎牌是選手生涯記錄的一種證明。但是，對於
中國女隊的成員來說，即將到來的卡達及科威特公開賽，還具有另外一種重要性。
A good performance and a place in the squad to compete in the Liebherr World
Team Championships in Bremen, Germany from 24th April to 1st May 2006 could
be assured.
只要在這裡有好的表現，就能確保在4月24到5月1日德國不萊梅世錦賽的代表團中取得
一席之地。
Selection Tournament
選拔賽
Recently a tournament was held in China as part of the process to select the
Women’s Team. Winner of the event was seventeen year old GUO Yue who beat
the reigning Olympic and World champion, ZHANG Yining, in the final 6-11,
11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4. Earlier she had defeated GUO Yan in the semi-finals
whilst ZHANG Yining had overcome former Olympic and World champion, WANG Nan,
at the same juncture.
在最近一項為世錦賽而辦的選拔賽中，17歲的郭躍，在決賽中以3：2（-6,9,-8,9,4 ）
擊敗奧運金牌張怡寧拿到優勝。在稍早的準決賽中，郭躍擊敗郭焱，而張怡寧則是擊敗

The latter stages were broadcast live on Chinese television (CCTV), as was
much of the second selection tournament for the Chinese Men’s Team to play
in Bremen. It is the first time that internal selection tournaments within
the Chinese team have been televised.
比賽的後半段，跟男子第二回選拔賽一樣，由中央電視台直播。這是中國首次由電視轉播
內部選拔賽。
In the women’s competition sixteen players were on duty with the initial
stage consisting of four groups with four players in each group. The top two
players in each group progressed to the quarter-finals and competed for
places one to eight whilst the third and fourth placed players contested
places nine to sixteen. Matches were duly organised until a complete ranking
list of all six players was determined.
在女子部分，16名選手先分成四個小組，各取前兩名進入八強，後兩名則進行9-16排名賽
賽程安排會確定所有人的排名。
Only Winner Guaranteed
冠軍才有保障
However, only the winner of the tournament, GUO Yue, is guaranteed a place in
the team for Bremen; the remaining four places are open. Any member of the
Chinese Women’s Team who is competing in the Liebherr Qatar Open and the
Liebherr Kuwait Open, and on both occasions reaches the final, will secure
their place in the team for the Liebherr World Team Championships. The
remaining places will be decided by the coaches.
但是，只有選拔賽的冠軍--郭躍--確定獲得不萊梅參賽資格；其餘四個名額仍是開放的。
任何參加卡達跟科威特公開賽的中國女隊選手，只要打進決賽都可以確定取得不萊梅世

The members of the Chinese Women’s Team on duty in both Qatar and Kuwait are
CAO Zhen, GUO Yan, GUO Yue, LI Xiaoxia, WANG Nan and ZHANG Yining.
預計參加卡達與科威特公開賽的中國女隊隊員包括曹真、郭焱、郭躍、李曉霞、王楠與張
怡寧。
Doubt
懸念
Surely, it is inconceivable that ZHANG Yining will not be in the team; in the
past twelve months only GUO Yue has beaten her in World Ranking tournaments.
However, could there be a doubt over WANG Nan?
的確，如果張怡寧不在隊中是不可思議的；在過去一年裡，只有郭躍曾經在世界積分賽

She is the most experienced of the leading Chinese female players; she first
played in the World Championships in 1995; she has Olympic and World Women’s
Singles titles to her credit but her results internationally in 2004 and 2005
have not reached her usual high standards.

New Names

The scene is therefore set for new names to be considered in the team that
will contest the Corbillon Cup. GUO Yan, LI Xiaoxia and CAO Zhen have never
represented China in the Women’s Team event at a World Championships. In
Qatar and Kuwait they have a chance to press their claim.

GUO Yan enjoyed a successful 2005. She was the runner up to ZHANG Yining in
both the Volkswagen World Championships and the Deng Ha Women’s World Cup
whilst LI Xiaoxia won the Women’s Singles title at the Volkswagen China Open.
郭焱在2005年取得了好成績。他在世錦賽單打以及女子世界盃個人賽中均只輸給張怡寧，
獲得亞軍。而李曉霞則在中國公開賽中贏得后冠。
Percentages（確切意思不詳，要查字典）
However, if it comes to percentages on the ITTF Pro Tour no-one can match
eighteen year old CAO Zhen. She first played on the ITTF Pro Tour in 2003 at
the Malaysian Open and won both the Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles
titles on debut. In total, she has played in seven ITTF Pro Tour tournaments
during her career; she has four Women’s Singles and four Women’s Doubles
titles to her credit. The only time she has not returned with at least one
title at an ITTF Pro Tour event was the Volkswagen Open Germany in 2004 when
in both Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles events she lost in the
quarter-finals.

A group of highly motivated Chinese female players will be on duty in Qatar
and Kuwait; beating Chinese women in the sport of table tennis is always a
tough task, a very tough task. In Qatar and Kuwait, it would seem that task
may be even harder!
一群懷著強大動機的中國女隊選手將參加卡達與科威特公開賽；要在桌球賽事中擊敗中
國女子選手向來是個艱鉅的任務。在卡達與科威特，這項任務似乎又更艱鉅了些。
