DAVID BECKHAM has led a posse of England players tipping Wayne Rooney to bounce back from his World Cup red card shame against Portugal. And Beckham is urging Rooney not to be vilified in the same way he was after his sending-off against Argentina in the 1998 finals for kicking out at Diego Simeone. Beckham was criticised and abused by fans wherever he played for Manchester United before winning them around with his inspirational displays for his country. Rooney could face a similar dilemma as England were forced to play the last hour against the Portuguese with 10 men before going out on penalties. Beckham said: "Wayne is undoubtedly a strong enough character to bounce back from the sending-off. Wayne Rooney is our future and that is what people should think and remember. "At the end of the day, people, whoever they are, get sent off in football. Will he get vilified like me? Let's hope not because I remember what it was like for me." Striker Peter Crouch, who came on as a substitute up front after Rooney's red card, revealed: "Wayne was devastated. We've gone into the dressing room and his head was down to the floor. (頭貼在地上?) "The manager took him off on his own for a word and consoled him. A couple of the lads put their arm around him and rallied around him. "What Wayne has got to remember is he has a massive future and I am sure he can play in many more World Cups. "He is leading the line for England up front and you've got to remember his age as well, only 20. He has done fantastically well and there is a lot more to come from Wayne. "I hope Wayne does not get the same sort of rough ride as David Beckham did all those years ago. Everyone knows how young he is and, in my opinion, he was totally unlucky to get sent off." Defender Rio Ferdinand said: "Wayne is going to be disappointed with what happened. When the red card was shown, I was amazed. I didn't know what had gone on. "Can he bounce back? He has broad shoulders and is a very talented player. In terms of what he is going to be in for when he gets back home, I guess you guys determine that in some ways with the way you portray things. "But if anyone gets sent off they are going to be disappointed - no matter whether it is in the Premier League or the World Cup finals." John Terry believes Rooney had been fouled in the lead-up to red card when he appeared to make contact on the floor with Ricardo Carvalho and push Cristiano Ronaldo.
