Reds receive stadium boost
Liverpool's planned switch to a new stadium moved a step closer after
European funding was secured by the club.
在歐洲資金的進入讓新球場的計畫更進一步
The Reds are keen to relocate from their current Anfield home to a new
state-of-the-art stadium in the nearby Stanley Park area to increase capacity
and boost revenue.
The European Union Objective One grant of ￡9 million was secured on Thursday
and it will be used to help regenerate the area around the Stanley Park site.

Liverpool were handed the additional funds after the club guaranteed it had
the ￡180 million funding needed to put the entire project in place.

The Reds were handed a 999-year lease of Stanley Park by the city council
earlier this month and now they can continue plans to begin work on the
project.

Councillor Flo Clucas, chairman of the Objective One project selection
sub-committee, said: "This is a major step forward for the people of Anfield.
"It will underpin substantial investment by other partners whose commitment
will help transform the neighbourhood.''
Reds chief executive Rick Parry welcomed the decision of the committee.
"It's another significant step forward in our plans for the building of a new
stadium, which we have always seen as a catalyst for the regeneration of the
whole area," said Parry.
