Much less work to do tonight when compared to the weekend. Made one point
blank save from the flagged offside Stancu.
Martin Kelly 5.0
Failed to keep a lid on Tanase as the attacker drifted inside from the wing.
Given no chance to shine going forward as the midfield failed to hold on to
possession.
Sotiris Kyrgiakos 4.5
No chemistry with Agger and cement in his boots. Shocking lack of pace was
exposed by Tanase as he left him for dead for the equaliser. Won penalty
after he was hauled down at a corner kick.
Daniel Agger 5.0
Barely spoke a word to Kyrgiakos and their lack of playing time stood out.
Poised problems by the nippy Steaua midfielders when they burst forward from
deep.
Paul Konchesky 6.0
Still finding his feet at Anfield. Must be wondering how his new team could
be so different to the tight unit he's left behind at Fulham. Struck one free
kick wide of the post to show other facet of his game.
Jay Spearing 5.5
Plenty of passion but not enough precision. Gave his all to make a difference
and was sole cheerleader on the pitch. Small stature meant he was left behind
by Steaua's leggy runners, however.
Raúl Meireles5.0
The responsibility of wearing the wore too heavy on Alberto Aquilani's
shoulders and on this performance, it could be 'Groundhog Day.' Occasional
flashes were rare and the Portugal international shrank rather than grew into
the game on his Anfield debut.
Maxi Rodríguez5.0
Contributed the square root of nothing yet again. The Atletico Madrid outcast
is an exhibition piece of the financial malaise affecting the club.
Substituted towards end for Pacheco. Booked.
Joe Cole 7.5
Calmly dispatched the fastest goal in Liverpool's long European history when
he pounced on a loose pass after 26 seconds. Lone beacon of quality among sea
of mediocrity. His flicks and tricks added some much needed urgency on the
pitch and in the stands. Made his voice heard when all his team-mates were
silent.
Ryan Babel 4.5 Flop of the Match
Played with a real sense of entitlement that sticks in the craw. Justified
none of the hype with a plodding display full of failed tricks. No sweat on
the shirt. How many chances will the Dutchman be given?
David Ngog 8.0 Top of the Match
Shruggled off the shackles of a disappointing first half to calmly dispatch a
55th minute penalty. Showed strength and speed to fire in a second in injury
time. Excellent return after being forced to feed on scraps as lone front man.

Lucas 7.5
Lifted Anfield to its feet with a wonderfully taken goal from outside the box
after coming on in the 79th minute. Passed the ball sweetly into the net. A
strike of real quality in a game that lacked it elsewhere.

Manchester-born youngster given Champions League bow in 89th minute.
Daniel Pacheco n/a
Exciting Spaniard was brought on by Hodgson in 85th minute.
