標題[情報] Calls come in as Ubaldo market takes shape

LOS ANGELES --The Yankees and Red Sox made calls to the Rockies on Tuesday
about the availability of their ace pitcher, Ubaldo Jimenez, and information
has surfaced as to the price the Rockies are asking.
Even though the Major Leagues' two highest-profile franchises are making
calls, it appears things are further along with the Reds. Word in the
industry is the Rockies require starting pitchers Travis Wood and Homer
Bailey, plus one of two young stars -- flame-throwing left-handed pitcher
Aroldis Chapman or top catching prospect Devin Mesoraco, currently at
Triple-A Louisville.
Another name that has come up in talks between the teams is prized first
base-outfield prospect Yonder Alonso, but the Reds called him up from
Louisville on Tuesday after trading Jonny Gomes to the Nationals for two
prospects, left-handed pitcher Chris Manno and outfielder-first baseman Bill
Rhinehart.
The New York Post and ESPN have reported that the Blue Jays have expressed
interest.
According to a Major League Baseball source, the Rockies are not going to
come down on their asking price, no matter which team makes the offer.
They're basically waiting on a team to blink, which means talks could
continue all the way to the Sunday 2 p.m. MT non-waiver Trade Deadline.
In other possible trade news, the Rockies placed first baseman Jason Giambi
on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a left quadriceps strain, which
likely will mean he won't be dealt before the Deadline. However, the Rockies
could still deal him after the Deadline by having him pass through waivers.
As long as Giambi is with his new team by Sept. 1, he will be eligible for
the postseason roster.
Giambi, 40, a backup first baseman and left-handed pinch-hitter, has been one
of baseball's most productive players per plate appearance, with a .260
batting average and .357 on-base percentage, 10 home runs and 24 RBIs in 96
at-bats and 112 plate appearances.
Giambi suffered the injury while running to first base in the ninth inning of
Monday night's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
