Perfect Game老大哥Jerry Ford的意見: Top Position Player for 2012 draft: First of all, this is not based on anyone ’s opinion but my own. I’m not going to consider important things like signability. Is it Byron Buxton the super athlete from a small town in Georgia? Or is it Carlos Correa, the ARod look alike from Puerto Rico? Top Position Player for me – Carlos Correa The first time I went to see Buxton play I didn’t need a program or roster sheet. I picked him out as they were walking on the field. Some could have Byron Buxton at the top and that is understandable. Buxton sure looks the part and he sure is a great athlete with a very high ceiling. It’s not like these are the only two to consider, but it seems as though most people like Buxton the best and I like Correa the best My argument in favor of Correa... Buxton is often talked about as being a 5 tool talent. I have to disagree, I see him as a 3 tool talent with a chance to hit. Buxton has played in our tournaments and has yet to hit a homerun. To date during this HS season he has yet to hit a homerun. Sorry, but does that sound like a 5 tool player? Some could project future power, but how much power do you project. Would it be enough to call him a legitimate 5 tool guy? Right now he has a ground ball approach and some would say that is good based on his unreal H-1 times. However, he’s a RHH and the better advantage would be from the left side. No question, he has a plus arm and he is a plus runner. He and DJ Davis are probably the two fastest prep players I saw last year. I actually like Davis’s bat a tad better. That said, I totally agree that Buxton is a rare talent and worthy of being a very early pick. And if somehow he would show some power this would be a much harder decision. Correa grades out better than Buxton in 4 of the 5 tools. Only Buxton’s running ability keeps it from being a clean sweep. As good as Buxton’s arm is, no position player that we have ever seen has a better arm than Correa. He plays shortstop and is very smooth. Watching him throw across the infield is a real eye opener. Yes, it’s possible he will simply get too big for the position at some point, but so what. He profiles as one of the top 3B in the game. Correa can hit, he can hit top level pitching and he can hit it with outstanding power. In one game last year against two highest level pitchers, we saw Correa do something that Buxton simply hasn’t yet done against live pitching. In one of the biggest ball parks in America he hit a “top spin” line drive off the left field wall off a 90+ RHP. In his next AB he hit a 2 strike pitch about 400+ feet over the left center field wall off a 90+ LHP. We ’ve been watching him do this kind of stuff for a couple years now. For years now there have been many HS players that have been compared to Alex Rodriguez. This is the closest one I’ve seen that might be a legitimate comparison. He even kind of looks like ARod! So my thinking is.... Always take the bat and the power if there is any doubt. I like Buxton a lot, but this one is a very easy decision for me. The tools, the feel for the game, and the power bat, make that decision for me. -- Buxton: http://youtu.be/u7yJdO3eZT8
