KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Astros manager Bo Porter informed Alex White, Brad
Peacock, Brandon Barnes and Fernando Martinez on Monday they’re making the
team’s 25-man opening-day roster.

Carlos Corporan, Ronny Cedeno, Matt Dominguez, Chris Carter and Justin
Maxwell were also told they’re on the team, but all five were expected to
make the club.

With Barnes and Martinez making the cut, the Astros’ outfield is expected to
include Rick Ankiel in right, Carter in left and Maxwell in center. Barnes
and Martinez are likely reserves.

White and Peacock are still battling for the No. 5 spot in the starting
rotation. Porter said a decision will likely be made as late as possible, but
the Astros will set their 1-5 pitchers before the regular season begins.

Trevor Crowe and Brandon Laird were among those informed they wouldn’t make
the opening-day roster. Also on that list were Jose Martinez and Jose Valdez.

Porter said the toughest decision came down to Barnes and Crowe. Barnes won a
spot because of his versatility.

Chia-Jen Lo was optioned to Class AAA.
