SAN FRANCISCO -- Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly doesn't expect injured
shortstop Hanley Ramirez back from the disabled list any time soon.
Ramirez thinks his skipper is wrong and isn't certain he needed to go out.
The Dodgers put Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained
left hamstring. The team made the move Saturday, a day after he hurt himself
running the bases.
Asked to speculate how long he thought Ramirez would be sidelined, Mattingly
didn't sound optimistic.
"A while ... I hope that puts it in the right category," Mattingly said. "You
never really know when a guy's ready or not because you can't ever get to the
intensity that you need to get to on the hamstring where you're going to
explode and ask for more of your body. It's going to be a while."
Ramirez was injured while trying to go from first base to third in the sixth
inning of Friday night's 2-1 loss at San Francisco.
The 29-year-old Ramirez was reinstated from the DL on Monday after surgery on
his right thumb in March. He started the season on the disabled list after
being injured during the World Baseball Classic.
Ramirez went 5-for-11 with a home run in four games for the Dodgers.
Infielder Dee Gordon was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take
Ramirez's spot on the roster.
