Marlins ace Jose Fernandez is having an MRI in Los Angeles, reports Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. The nature of his injury -- extent, body part, etc. -- is unknown. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says Fernandez is expected to be placed on the disabled list. The Marlins are currently in Los Angeles for a series against the Dodgers. Manager Mike Redmond will meet with the media for his daily chat at approximately 6:30pm ET, at which point we will hopefully find out more about Fernandez and his injury. The Padres roughed the 21-year-old Fernandez up on Friday night, scoring six runs in five innings thanks to two home runs. The right-hander's fastball was down a tick or two during the start, but Spencer reports Fernandez was not feeling well before the game and actually threw up in the dugout. Aside from a tight hamstring early in spring training last season, Fernandez has been perfectly healthy throughout his professional career. No arm problems or anything like that. Of course, any time you hear a pitcher is going for an MRI, it's easy to assume the worst. It's a scary thing. Fernandez is 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA (154 ERA+) in eight starts and 51 2/3 innings this season despite Friday's clunker.
