Chen Out With Shoulder Injury

Yung-Chi Chen, the Mariners’ top middle infield prospect, will have surgery
on his left shoulder and is slated to miss approximately five months.

The 23-year-old Chen hit .295/.365/.443 in a 40-game stint with Double-A San
Antonio to close the 2006 season. Signed out of Taiwan in 2004, Chen
represented his country in both the World Baseball Classic and Futures Game
last season.
