Coach Dirk Bauermann hailed Germany′s performance in the SuperCup despite
Sunday′s final-day loss to Italy.
Backed by Andrea Bargnani′s 24 points, the Azzurri clinched a 69-60 victory
in the warm-up tournament for EuroBasket 2007 in Spain, which starts on
September 3.
"The defeat is no problem at all," Bauermann said afterwards.
Andrea Bargnani returned from injury for Italy and scored 24 points in 31
minutes of action."I′m not scared ahead of the EuroBasket. We had an
exhausting week with a lot of tough matches.
"At the end we were lacking strength and concentration to make the right
decisions. But it was a good match which given the circumstances makes me
more optimistic than ever."
Making his 100th appearance for the National Team, Dirk Nowitzki finished
with 18 points.

He tried hard to keep his country in the game but Italy used an 11-0 run to
pull away in the third quarter.
"Even though it wasn′t enough to win today, I′m proud of my team," added
Bauermann, who cut Julian Sensley off the roster for the EuroBasket.
"We have played a good tournament and gained a lot of self-confidence."
Germany had no answer for Bargnani who looked sharp on his return from
injury, pouring in 24 points in 31 minutes.
Coach Carlo Recalcati was delighted with his performance.
"We did not know how Bargnani would do," he said.
"I left him to decide if he felt ready for 15 minutes or less. He said he was
ready and I let him play, then he played for a long time and we managed it
well, I would say.
"Apart from Bargnani, I am not so happy for winning, but for the attitude of
the squad, which was the right one when things are not going right and you
have to react."
Due to Italy's injury problems - only nine fit players were available for
this match - Recalcati will have to make additions to his squad for
EuroBasket.
"I will probably call up a few more players to allow us to train right," he
said.
Russia won the SuperCup following a 67-56 victory over Portugal.
Andrei Kirilenko led all scorers with 18 points.
