 The Mavericks don't need Matt Carroll to be the answer.

They would be happy for him to be the next Kyle Korver.

If the Mavericks wanted an example of what a 3-point specialist can do for a
team, all they had to do was look down the court Saturday night.

Utah traded for Korver last season because it needed a shooting threat to
spread the floor and open up its offense. While Korver's numbers weren't
staggering after the trade – he averaged 9.8 points and shot 38.8 percent
from 3-point range – his presence played a key role in the team's 38-12
finish.

It's unrealistic to ask Carroll to have that sort of impact. But he is a
proven shooter in the Korver mold, and we've seen what that can mean on a
good team.

"When he's on the floor, you're not going to leave him," Mavericks guard
Jason Terry said of his new teammate. "I mean, that was our scouting report.

"You leave him open, you can count it up as three points."
