Dallas Mavericks facing key stretch before All-Star break

The importance of the next two weeks before the All-Star break cannot be
overstated for the Mavericks.
Starting with Wednesday night's visit by the Golden State Warriors, the
Mavericks have eight games in 16 days against a mixed bag of competition.
There are some high-tone teams coming to town: Boston and Portland. And the
three road games, while tough, are not impossible.
The point is that these two weeks will determine whether the Mavericks go
into the All-Star break still trying to put .500 out of sight, or whether
they are closer to 10 games above the level mark.
Sweeping the home games is paramount. They have yet to put together any sort
of dominant stretch at home. At this point, there's no excuse not to go 4-0
at AAC before the Feb. 12 visit by Boston. That will be a payback game. So if
the Mavericks can go 5-0 at home between now and the break, and win just once
on the road, that would put them at 31-21 at the break.
At this point, that sound pretty darn good. It also would give them a shred
of breathing room in the final 30 games.

Q: Is there a reverse curse on the Mavericks for acquiring Dirk Nowitzki in
one of the most lopsided trades ever? It seems like they never win in
Milwaukee.

The Mavericks almost never win in Milwaukee. The thing that negates your
theory about Nowitzki's trade (for Robert Tractor Traylor after the 1998
draft) creating some sort of curse is that the Mavericks' lack of success at
Milwaukee predates that event.
They are 5-23 all-time at the Bucks' home. Since Nowitzki arrived on the
team, they are 3-7 at Milwaukee, which actually makes them a little better
since he got here.
