http://tinyurl.com/cbzbez You may be under the impression that Jerry Stackhouse doesn't want to be in Dallas any longer. You may believe he no longer has a place on this team and his departure in the next few weeks is a foregone conclusion. Don't be so sure. If Stackhouse finds himself in a Mavericks uniform once the Feb. 19 trade deadline passes, well, that's fine with him. He actually sounds encouraged by the idea. And while the veteran guard missed his 40th consecutive game Thursday night against Utah, he hopes to return next week for the team's final game before the All-Star break. The reversal stems from a conversation Stackhouse had with Rick Carlisle last week. The Mavericks coach told Stackhouse once he is healthy, he will be given the opportunity to reclaim a consistent role in the rotation. "It changed my whole mind-set of what I was thinking," Stackhouse said. "I just wasn't comfortable with what was being said early on about using me in certain matchups and certain games. As a competitor, I just wasn't ready to accept that. "I feel like if I'm healthy and ready to go, there's not a game where I shouldn't play. We talked about that and now I know we're not going to have that type of issue." The issue was playing time. That was erratic for Stackhouse in the first two weeks of the season. He came to feel he was the sacrificial veteran, the 34-year-old on a team that felt the need to develop younger players in Antoine Wright and Gerald Green at his expense. Stackhouse never demanded a trade. But he suggested publicly that he should explore other possibilities if the Mavericks were committed to a youth movement at his position. Something else has changed since Stackhouse made his mid-November proclamation. The offense. Stackhouse is at his best in half-court sets when plays are called for him. He was not a good fit for the motion offense the Mavericks ran to open the season. That offense has been scrapped. What the team runs now resembles what it has done the past several seasons. "Stack has been an integral part of this team for many years," Carlisle said. "I don't dismiss that. I know what he can bring. I know what he brought to my team in Detroit. "This is a two-part process. The first part is he's got to get healthy and in condition, and the second part is the actual activation and integration into the rotation. That's going to be a feel thing. "My message to him was, 'let's get you back, then we'll go from there.' " It has been nearly three months since Stackhouse took the court for the Mavericks. He endured what he calls a nagging discomfort in his heel all summer from plantar fasciitis and a bone spur. He went to several sports therapists around Dallas as well as a chiropractor and an acupuncturist to get ready for the season. The pain persisted. Eventually, there was a rupture. It's been a long road back. Stackhouse's heel still hurts when he gets up in the morning. But he has been cleared to run and cut and went four-on-four in an informal practice earlier this week. He hopes to return to practice next week, get a few minutes in Thursday's game against Boston, then see how the heel responds over the All-Star break. "I've just got to get back into a rhythm and into shape," Stackhouse said. "It behooves me that I'm ready to go. "I told them before, it's not that I ever wanted to leave Dallas. That wasn't my thing. But I wasn't ready to accept that position. Either ride it out with me or let me ride out." Stackhouse understands he could still be traded. If the Mavericks continue to win, finding his niche in the rotation could take even longer. But he feels better about staying with this team than he did before his talk with Carlisle. "Yeah," Stackhouse said. "Very much so." 球團滿會替自己留後路... 個人感覺是 一直找不到好的交易對象 所以才說他在治傷... -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.136.180.155
