The chatter begins

As teams are eliminated from the playoffs, talk of next season and offseason
plans and roster shakeups are inevitable. After the Jazz were knocked out by
the Lakers, there were many who believed they'd seen the last of Carlos
Boozer in a Jazz uniform (and when you consider how strong Paul Millsap
looked in the fourth quarter, it's obvious why).

Detroit was the first to go, dismissed by LeBron and the Cavs in a sweep.
Talk of a major roster turnover has already begun in Motown, with some very
interesting names popping up as potentially available, such as Rip Hamilton
and Tayshaun Prince.

Rasheed Wallace will be a free agent and, I believe, not a viable option for
the Knicks, who have just the mid-level exception to spend in free agency. It
must be spent wisely. And Sheed may be looking to join a contender, such as
San Antonio or even Cleveland.

The Hornets took one of the worst home playoff beatings in NBA history (looks
like Byron Scott has lost yet another locker room) and should be put out of
their misery in Game 5 back in Denver. But while people love Tyson Chandler,
he's been miserable most of this season and invisible in this series. Yes, he
has a bad ankle. But the intensity he brought to games in the past two
seasons has been inconsistent, if not non-existent (sounding like Clyde
here).

Chris Paul was clearly beat up physically in that 59-point loss to the Nugs
last night, but Denver also had their way in the paint all night long. It was
a lay-up line and Chandler spent most of the game on the bench in four
trouble. He didn't have a single block in the 12 minutes he played and was
scoreless.

The Hornets tried to trade Chandler at the deadline and there's reason to
believe they'll consider it again this summer. TC has another year left at

shot-blocker, rebounder and ability to run and get at the rim. What the
Knicks -- and other teams -- need to figure out is if he can get himself
healthy and get the edge back in his game. With another payday looming in a
year or two (his option year is $13.1M for 2010-11), Chandler has to find his
old self again. Perhaps a change of scenery (coaching, system) will be a
spark.

And as we consider that option, Chandler's pal, Eddy Curry, prepares to head
to Detroit next month to begin a fried food detox and try to get control of
his body and his career, we keep hearing about Shaquille O'Neal's
determination to tighten up and extend his shelf-life for another contract.
