http://tinyurl.com/p3ns9u Being an NBA first-round draft pick is a glorious moment for any player. Roddy Beaubois, the Mavericks' new addition at point guard, is introduced at American Airlines Center on Friday. The 6-2 guard brings energy, athleticism and skill, said Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle. It was no different for new Maverick Roddy Beaubois. In fact, the 6-2 point guard got a double shot of thrills with the events late in the first round of Thursday's draft. "I've waited for this moment a long time," Beaubois said Friday at American Airlines Center. "When they called my name, I was way happy because I waited so long. "But when they told me I was supposed to go to Dallas, I was happier because I really like this team and this city. I really appreciate this." So are we to assume Oklahoma City, which drafted Beaubois for the Mavericks, wasn't high on his wish list. "No," he quickly said. Not that there's anything wrong with the town or NBA franchise 200 miles north of Dallas. But it's not Dallas. And this is where Beaubois (BO-bwah) wanted to be. The Mavericks had targeted him as one of the players they would use their 24th overall pick on. But when it came their turn to draft, the Mavericks got a call from the Thunder, which owned the 25th pick. "Why would you trade 24 for 25?" owner Mark Cuban said. "I think Oklahoma City wanted to find out who we were drafting because that might have impacted some other things they were doing. "They wanted to see our hand, and if they wanted us to turn over our hole card, they had to pay for that right." That's how the Mavericks got a future second-round pick. And still ended up with what they think is a keeper at point guard. Beaubois, according to the Mavericks, measured similar to Devin Harris on quickness and agility drills. His 6-10 wingspan and 39-inch vertical leap didn't hurt, either. Coach Rick Carlisle said the acquisitions of Beaubois, combo guard Nick Calathes and forward Ahmad Nivins could not have worked out better. "They're the kind of guys we want to have in our franchise – young, energetic guys that bring skill, athleticism and enthusiasm," Carlisle said. "We're a team that's looking to win a championship on one hand, but also infuse young talent and guys that are about the things that we feel are important." Beaubois, 21, who grew up on Guadalupe in the French West Indies, began playing basketball at age 7 and, at 17, went to France when he realized he needed to play against better competition. Fellow Frenchman Mickael Pietrus is credited for uncovering Beaubois at one of his camps in Guadalupe, where he also grew up. "I knew I had to play at a higher level," Beaubois said. Now, he'll do so alongside Jason Kidd, assuming the Mavericks can sign him this summer. "He's one of the best point guards to play the game," Beaubois said. "I think I can learn some things from him." The Mavericks are counting on it.WATCH VIDEO of Roddy Beaubois from Friday's press conference. 玻ㄅㄨㄚˋ他很高興被小牛選到 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 114.38.1.170
