Mavericks' big guns light up Grizzlies

Shawn Marion's right calf is sore. It's tough to tell by looking at his line
in the box score.
As was the case in his preseason debut as a Maverick, Marion was a model of
offensive efficiency in Sunday night's 114-107 win over the Grizzlies. He
scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting in 17 minutes.
The presence of Marion, a premier slasher and cutter, also helps open up the
floor for Dirk Nowitzki to go to work. Nowitzki kidded after the first
preseason game that his jumper was coming via boat on Germany. That ship has
apparently arrived, as he had 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting against Memphis.
The starting unit's defense, however, was far below the standard coach Rick
Carlisle is trying to set. He grumbled about the Grizzlies' 35-point first
quarter.
The Mavericks won the game because of the dominance of their bench, which the
Mavs believe is vastly improved since last season. The Mavs' top four
reserves were at least plus-12. Jason Terry was in Sixth Man of the Year
form, pouring in 11 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter.
