With the blessing of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and president Donnie Nelson – and with countryman Tony Parker withdrawing from the team – Beaubois has been offered a spot on the national team and has accepted, Nelson confirmed Friday. The 6-1 guard is coming off a promising rookie season and figures prominently into the Mavericks' future. He will start his off-season at the Las Vegas Summer League in early July. "It actually dovetails nicely with the world championships," Nelson said. After a short rest, Beaubois will begin practicing with the French team for the world championships, which start Aug. 28 in Turkey. The competition will be stiff. France is in the same grouping as Spain, which won the last world championships in 2006. Also in the group is traditional power Lithuania, as well as Canada, New Zealand and Lebanon. The Mavericks had been concerned about Beaubois playing in Turkey if the French team had included Parker and if that meant precious little playing time available for Beaubois. The Mavericks figured that time could be better spent in the weight room or in the many pick-up games that take place at the Mavericks' training facility during the summer. Beaubois averaged 7.1 points and shot 52 percent from the field (41 percent on 3-point attempts) in 56 games this season with a high of 40 points at Golden State.
