Jean-Jacques Taylor, columnist for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning
News, chatted with fans on Wednesday about a number of hot-button issues.

Here are some of the highlights:

Any truth to the rumor that the Dallas Mavericks are making a "hard push" on
trading for Carmelo Anthony? What would such a deal cost the Mavs player wise?

I heard that a couple of weeks ago from someone who would know, and my
question was, "even if he won't sign a long-term extension?" Apparently so.
Cuban wants a title, and he wants a title for Dirk. Carmelo would help them
get one, though they have to give up Roddy B and a bunch of other stuff to
get Carmelo. Hey, I'm all for it. Pro sports is about winning titles. The
Mavs have been so good for so long that I'm down with whatever they have to
do to get a ring just like I was down with the Cliff Lee trade. Plus, folks
who know tell me Carmelo and Dirk would work great together because Carmelo
demands a double team in the blocks, which means a lot of open jumpers for
Dirk.

Should Mavs go for Melo considering how good Caron has been over last few
weeks and the tight chemistry we currently have?

Caron is ok. He's a nice NBA player, but I don;t view him as a guy who's the
difference between winning and losing a title. I didn't see anything in the
playoffs last season that made me think the Mavs couldn;t live without him


Are Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler the only untouchables on the Mavericks'
roster?

Pretty much. The trick is that you don't want to butcher your roster trying
to acquire him so that you don't have enough talent to win a title. This
would be interesting. I hope they can get it done. We saw how much fun the
Rangers' playoff run was, and the Mavs would be even better


Given the Mavericks' fantastic start, do you see a trade happening?

The Mavs are tying to win a ring. If they think Carmelo helps them do it,
then heck yes.
