Red-hot mavs rolling into March thanks to Dirk's career-best shooting

PHILADELPHIA — It’s hard to tell who was sadder to see February end, the
Mavericks or all those folks who got $5 -Dollar Footlongs.



The Mavericks devoured the month like so many Philly cheesesteaks, going 11-1
and feasting on mostly sub-standard opposition. What they can take out of
February is a fattened-up record and the knowledge that they re-learned how
to run their system with a mix-and-match lineup that put a premium on
unselfish play, no matter which combination of players was on the court.

Look no further than the assist total for February as proof. The Mavericks
dished out 25.2 helpers per game, a sizeable bump from the 22.5 they averaged
before February.

The Mavericks’ sizzle actually started in late January, when they won their
last five games to salvage an 8-8 month.

Since then, it’s been all good, particularly for Dirk Nowitzki, who hasn’t
had to score as much as usual thanks to the way his teammates are spreading
the scoring wealth.

“The key is that he’s gotten into a good rhythm and he’s playing with a
lot of different guys because of our rotation, and I think that’s helped our
team,” coach Rick Carlisle said.

And it’s helped Nowitzki, too. He’s shooting a career-best 52.4 percent and
was even better than that in February. While his scoring average is down more
than two points from last year and almost four points below his career best,
he’s clearly more efficient as he’s seen his playing time drop by three
minutes per game.

而這也幫助了Dirk。他的投籃命中率是生涯新高的5成24，而2月甚至更好。 雖然他

Nowitzki said Monday that the shuffling of lineups is a positive thing for
the Mavericks and that the depth already is paying dividends and will be an
even greater asset in the playoffs.


Even though rotations tend to shorten in the postseason, the Mavericks have
different sorts of players who can contribute against different opponents. It
’s all based on match-ups. And all of them know they can mesh with Nowitzki.

“To me, we have a veteran team and it doesn’t really matter who is out
there with you,” he said. “We all know how to play the game and it all goes
back to Jason Kidd and how unselfish everybody is.”

It also ensures the Mavericks have plenty of weapons to hedge against
occasional slumps by individual players.
