Mavs' Chandler out vs. Wolves
Dallas Mavericks center and top defender Tyson Chandler will not play Monday
night at Minnesota as Timberwolves forward Kevin Love seeks to tie Moses
Malone's record of 51 consecutive double-doubles.
Chandler will sit out a third consecutive game with a sprained right ankle.
He was hopeful of returning, but the Mavs are playing it cautious as they
play a string of five games in seven nights that ends with the Los Angeles
Lakers on Saturday night. Monday night is the third game of the stretch.
The Mavs are 1-1 without Chandler during this stint and 2-3 without him
overall this season.
Chandler is averaging 10.4 points and 9.4 rebounds.
Dallas next plays at New Orleans on Wednesday night and returns home to face
the retooled New York Knicks with Carmelo Anthony on Thursday night.
Love, the first-time All-Star for the moribund Timberwolves, is averaging
20.9 points and 15.7 rebounds. A double-double against the Mavs will tie him
with Moses Malone, who reached 51 in a row during the 1978-79 season.
Mavs backup center Brendan Haywood is expected to make his third consecutive
start in Chandler's absence.
