Preview: Mavs look to avenge earlier season loss to Timberwolves

Scouting the Timberwolves
They will be without their best player, Kevin Love, who did not travel with
the team. Love is the league’s leading rebounder and a double-double
machine, but he suffered a groin injury over the weekend against Sacramento.
… Michael Beasley got off to a hot start this season, averaging over 22
points through December, but he’s followed that with only 16 points per game
since 2011 began. … Last week at the Lakers, Corsicana product Wes Johnson
piled up 29 points, the season high for the rookie out of Syracuse. The 6-7
Johnson has averaged just over nine points and three rebounds for the season.

Scouting the Mavericks
They have owned the Timberwolves over the years but did drop a game to them
last February. … Dirk Nowitzki was needed for only 20 points Sunday against
Golden State. It was his lowest-scoring game since he had 13 points against
Sacramento 16 games ago. He’s averaged right at 26 points per game during
that span. … Shawn Marion will be back in action after missing a game with a
sore right wrist and also is nursing bruised ribs on his left side. … Peja
Stojakovic missed six games with neck issues but returned to hit five of
eight 3-pointers against Golden State. It was the first time since Feb. 23
that he made more than one 3-pointer in a game.
