Report: China team offers Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki $1.5 million per month By JON MACHOTA Special Contributor Published 09 August 2011 10:03 AM http://tinyurl.com/3pzzyqz NBA Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks has been offered $1.5 million per month to play for the Zhejiang Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association, according to the German newspaper Bild. The Monday report called the offer the largest monthly sum offered to an NBA player since the lockout went into effect. But don't be surprised if the German star turns down the mega-offer — he's nixed big money before, and his current focus is on helping his native country at the upcoming European Championships. Germany is seeking a berth in the 2012 Olympics. In the past, Nowitzki has agreed to play four more years in Dallas for $20 million per season, instead of putting his name on the open market and fetching closer to $25 million per year. He's also turned down several lucrative endorsement deals throughout his NBA career. Mavs' Dirk Nowitkzi not interested in playing abroad during lockout By SportsDayDFW.com Published 04 August 2011 08:58 PM http://tinyurl.com/3u6hzzh Dirk Nowitzki says he will play for Germany at the upcoming European Championship when Olympic berths will be at stake, but that appears to be the extent of his time abroad this summer. While Jordan Farmar and a host of other NBA players have already agreed to play abroad next season, Nowtizki said he won't follow the money outside the league and play elsewhere in event of an extended lockout. Speaking to ESPN's Marc Stein, Nowitzki made it clear that despite the interest from teams with deep pockets abroad, he plans on heading back home to Dallas to rest following the Euro Championships. "I'm going to play the Euros and then see where the lockout is after that," Nowitzki told Stein. "Until then, I'm not going to look at playing anywhere else." Nowitzki isn't the only superstar player being courted by teams in Europe and the Far East. Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant have both been contacted by various basketball clubs to take their talents to China and Turkey, with a lengthy lockout looking like a definite possibility. But Nowitzki is in a completely different situation than almost every other superstar in the league. Unlike Bryant and Wade, Nowitzki is coming off the first championship of his career, and most likely doesn't feel the pressure to play abroad and hone his game. It's probably a big reason why he's content to ride out the lockout from his home. -- ╭─────────╮ Our Way Our Will Our Win ╭╯Dallas Mavericks╭╯ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ╰─────────╯ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.166.123.231 ※ 編輯: JoshHoward5 來自: 218.166.123.231 (08/11 09:37)
