The Mavericks wasted no time filling their free-agent voids, moving swiftly
to trade for versatile forward Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers.




The trade has been agreed to by both sides, according to an NBA source and
the deal will be announced Sunday.

The Mavericks will be trading the $11-million trade exception they acquired
earlier in the day from New York in the sign-and-trade that sent Tyson
Chandler to the Knicks.


It is believed that the Mavericks will not have to part with any players to
make the deal happen. The Lakers, apparently, will utilize the trade
exception as part of a bigger deal, perhaps involving Chris Paul from New
Orleans.

Odom, 32, has a reputation as one of the most well-rounded big men in the
game. He has averaged 14.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4 assists per game in his
12-year career and had virtually identical averages last season with the
Lakers.


The 6-10 Odom is schedule to earn $8.9 million this season, but next season
is a team option at $8.2 million, meaning the Mavericks could continue to
keep their salary cap flexibility next summer.
